What I've read so far about the new Intel Skylake CPU's is that they can support either DDR3 or DDR4 memory but not both at the same time. My question is will EVGA's  motherboards for the upcoming Skylake CPU's support DDR3 or DDR4?

Yes, they should.  This is the whole hoopla about the z170 (I think that is the designator) series.  They DDR3 and DDR4 sticks will probably be different than any before, so they will only be compatible with the board that are compatible with both.  They MAY (Hopefully they do) make it the same size as current DDR3 or DDR4, so that it is either backward or forward compatible.

The current boards that we showed off at Computex are DDR4.

I don't see the point with supporting both dimms, ya want to use DDR3, just get a Z87. what, the Z67's, Z77's and Z87's are solid boards, depending on the board.

EVGA Jacob, will there be two separate version of the board, one with DDR3 and a separate DDR4?  That is a great idea if it is how that will work, instead of the talk that they would make a single DIMM to support both from a while back.

@Knightsilver, it makes sense for those with enough money for a new CPU and Motherboard, but not enough to spend $300 extra on good ram.  If they have the DDR3 already, then they have less crap to buy, and it is obviously smarter for them, especially if they wasted the money on something like Dominator Platinum Memory at @400mhz in the DDR3 Format, which is expensive.

There is very little, if any at all, gain from ddr4 for gamers. I can see a gamer wanting to save money and not go ddr4. In time ddr4 will take over but right now it is to expensive and to little gain. Maybe when games will program for ramdisk or utilizing extra ram will ddr4 storage size become useful.

I was simply asking because I'm putting my parts list together in anticipation of Skylake. I'm coming from a SB 2500k.

ok? I was asking jacob if they will have two separate board that have 240 pin DDR3 on one and 288Pin DDR4 on the other.  They won't support both at one time, and the initial talk by some was that there would be a new DIMM size for DDR#/DDR$ so both would fit one board.  If they are being smart and putting 2 variants of each board, it will answer your question and be an extremely smart move.

The CPU will support one at a time.  DDR3 or DDR4, but it is supposed to support both with one CPU (just switch the RAM and the Board).

I think yas got yer answer.. DDR4  :)

From what I've read, the top Skylake CPU (at least in the initial offering) will be an unlocked 4.0GHz with a 4.3GHz boost. Kind of surprising, considering the i7-4790K has a 4.4GHz boost.

Just starting a Z87 Stinger build for my Mrs. as it happens. Once the Z170 comes out and has matured enough to iron out any BIOS wrinkles, I may jump onto that new platform, possibly the Stinger if my Mrs' new build performs well. Would be the first time I haven't gone SLI for many many years if I take that route, but a single 980Ti is pretty damn impressive from what I hear.. and then there's the Titan X.

EVGA can't officially say anything about Skylake Motherboards, but know that they'll have Z170 series motherboards and they'll be DDR4...
