The reviewer finds this monitor to be better than the ASUS ROG SWIFT monitor as this one has an IPS panel

4 ms response time is garbage for gaming, why would anyone want this?

Unfortunately that is the tradeoff.  Better color and whatnot with IPS but they tend to be over 5ms.  1-2 is ideal for gaming, and there are *SOME* IPS's like that but mostly that leaves you with TN panels.

No grey area on whether or not IPS is better at color, but it really can be subjective to the users vision, I saw a Swift side by side with a nice IPS, and I do not see very well, and while I could see a difference to me it was miniscule, others said it was a HUGE difference....  For some the Swift could still be the idea choice for others, this is definitely a better option.  Both are great monitors either way.

I like the swift, its a 8 bit TN, it looked really good to me, and it has insane response times. Its the first time i really felt like a LCD was worthy to replace my 21 inch trinitron CRT for gaming.

Maybe some day IPS will catch up, but it still is not there.

I have an IPS panel and while its 1920x1080, I selected this resolution as video cards come up short for higher resolutions fast

Catch up in what way? So far it has the better picture and has caught up to 4k60hz panels and 1440p144hz. TN will probably break 4k120hz first but IPS will be close behind it. It does cost more though.

I think the catch-up he is referring to is the 1ms and the 144Hz combo, which really is amazing for FPS gaming.

Personally, I am waiting on a 4k, 120+hz Gsync in the 2ms or lower.  I am sure it will be a TN but if it is a higher end TN im fine with that.

Just give is a 1440p IPS 120Ghz+ DP 1.3, or was it DP 1.4 already, save us the Nvidia or AMD branded crap...

I have this monitor, and I absolutely love it.  It was definitely worth the jump coming from a 1080p monitor.

I think an LCD i bought 10 years ago was 4 ms response time. In today's day in age it should be 1ms, maybe 2 ms at the worst. I don't know how IPS works so i don't know why they still are not 1 ms.

Its inherent in the IPS, dont think we will see 1ms before a new standard that is superior come along.

My previous IPS(Samsung pannel I think) was 5-6rs and long as the fps was close to 60fps, you didn't get tearing, ghosting, and a 1440p ppi and color went a long way on not getting eye strain or tired eyes for more than a few hours. I won't ever buy another TN pannel.

There is more to it than ghosting though. At 4 ms + response time, you have input lag that is just plain wrong. If you want to play games like quake, cs etc, this input lag will be the end of you. 1 ms gets rid of this input lag pretty much entirely.

Personally, I think input_lag is a combination pcie-bus, gpu2monitor connector/cable, pcie-bus to usb mouse/keyboard. Display Port 1.4 and if we ever get an updated usb to pcie bus, saw less lag on ISA-bus to PS2.
