When EVGA think to show us X99 Classified 2?

This needs to happen ASAP!!!! I am guessing week of July 4th they will announce it leading up to EVGA's anniversary.

Re: X99 Micro 2 - New motherboard announced! 2015/07/06 02:35:55 (permalink)
I've got all the parts for a new build with the exception of the motherboard and I'm keen to wait for the new x99 micro but I have one question.
I have a Noctua NH-U12S cooler for the 5820K i7 which I know won't clear the graphics card in the first slot on the EVGA board.
Is there any problem with leaving the first PCI slot empty and installing the graphics card (EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4GB) in the second PCI slot?
I don't plan on ever running dual cards, but if I change my mind on this later I guess the only option would be water cooling for the CPU.
Thanks.

Probably not second slot is x16 speed If I saw good on picture, fonts are very small but I think it's x16.
On one picture EVGA installed Classified in second slot of EVGA X99 MIcro. Second slot is maybe even better if you use M.2 later...
If that devil is hot better to stay above card, not under graphic card.

Yes will be very nice little board...

Hrm, yet another board where designers aren't thinking very hard or making any effort to take advantage of opportunities.

PCIe Slot one too close the the CPU socket. Noctua NH-D15 can't be installed without taking over the first slot. Take a look at any review list of CPU and water coolers, Tweaktown for example, there is NO air or water cooler that comes close the NH-D15 for the desired loaded over clocked temp and noise. There are AIO water coolers that get close and beat the NH-D15 in over clocked loaded temps but those same units are all at least +10 Db louder than the NH-D15.

Seriously, 10 SATA ports? People are doing something wrong if they need 10 ports and this kind of must have as many as possible mentality is unproductive. Industry is moving away from SATA and you guy go an put more ports on the board…that's crazy. Put yer headz together, design a vertically mounted M.2 slot connector with a locking mechanism on the other end like RAM modules so as to mount M2 SSD's long ways just like DDR slots. Should be able to fit quite a few of those on the board. Benefits, much better performance than SATA, doesn't require those PITA SATA power cables hanging out of the PSU.

Reorient the PSU connector so that the cable plugs in from the side (like those SATA ports). For goddness sake, the PSU cable takes up too much space and interferes with the CPU cooler fans.

The Reset and Power buttons at the back of the board near the battery, they'd be far more useful if they were side oriented and placed on the other side of the board close to the IO.

Only Noctua cooler I like Is NH-U9S. That cooler is not big, nice and give nice performance.
I'm sorry because I didn't bought one new for 30e before some time to stay just in case if AIO die or something else and If I need something for short time.
With so small cooler no problems with memory or PCI-e slots... And designers of coolers should pay attention on PCIE slots, not designer of motherboard to optimize layout on board compatible for all coolers.

It's very easy to critic but its much easier to not think this rational and wanting the best the world has to offer.  It just doesn't work that way.

You first need to think about the cost of M.2 as its the most expensive per GB.  Your average user will not go buy a M.2 for basically the cost of a GPU for their rig.

The fitting of CPU coolers is on the CPU cooler manufacturer and NOT the MB maker.  I'm sure there's a standard put in place for MB manufacturers but if the CPU manufacturer goes beyond the standard, well that's on them.

Angled connectors were introduced on the bigger boards but some didn't like them and some did like myself.  On a smaller scale like the Micro x99, I don't think you'd do well with angled connectors in a small confined space which I believe the engineers took to consideration.  Most people don't have the smallest hands and some bends might be too stressful on the connectors itself.

There are too many variables.  To each their own but the masses speak with their wallets.  If its a bad design, sales will show that.

Too bad EVGA wont let me trade my Micro for one of the new ones. Taking their sweet time getting it on the Step Up Program and my 90 days just ran out. I'll never be able to sell this turd either..

There's the keepout zone around the socket but that's really only of use for those small pancake coolers that Intel ships with the mainstream CPUs. The CPU socket on the EVGA Micro is much closer to the top PCIe slot than most any other high-end board so it's not entirely fair to lay the blame solely with heatsink manufacturers.

However, if you are using a case in which the motherboard is supposed to be installed horizontally (AeroCool Dead Silence and such), then the protruding USB 3 connector will pose even larger problem in the new version of the board.

Why would anyone want to trade the original board for the new one?

P.S. Amusingly enough, after all the bashing single-latch memory slots received in this forum lately, everyone is suddenly drooling over EVGA's switch from dual-latch to single-latch in their new motherboards.

I could care less about the DIMM latches, once it's in, I don't plan on touching it again, and my Legacy micro is a turd. Nothing but a thorn in my side since I got it.
No matter what, my board is getting replaced and likely recycled because I wont be able to sell it for squat even though I've only had it for 4 months.

Well for one it is my only PC and god knows how long it would take for the whole thing to go through. And two, if I am completely dissembling my entire PC, I am not about to put the same junk Mobo back in.

You could speed up the process and have a board within a week if you did an Advanced RMA.  When you send your's out, they'll send you the new one so they criss cross.

Well, kind of bad news from the big man Jacob. I asked him in a PM about the Classified 2.0, and he said this, "Eventually it is in the plans, but not for a while..."

:P

Looks like the micro will be the way to go until then. Which isn't a terrible thing :)

I don't think they're giving up on it, but it definitely seems like its not a priority right now, given the launch of the Z170 series. :/

In the second version of Micro the USB 3 connector is pointing to the side (instead of up), meaning that you should be able to install your graphics card without any issues. However, if you are using a case in which the motherboard is supposed to be installed horizontally (AeroCool Dead Silence and such), then the protruding USB 3 connector will pose even larger problem in the new version of the board.

Well I'm using a Phantek Enthoo Evolv case, with motherboard mounted vertically but looks like it will need a small amount of cutting/filing for the USB 3 connector to fit.
It think it will still be an issue since I can only cut out about 4mm (5/32 ") before the edge of the hard drive cage will interfere.
Not sure what to do now.

Here's a photo of the existing cutout along with a quick Photoshop overlay of the board.

Thanks gendreaur,
That might do the trick.

It would be nice if EVGA would include one of these USB 3.0 Header Extenders with the X99 Micro 2 to help with compatibility in different cases.

NP, :D

I plan on getting this board and most likely be swapping my Crucial MX100 512GB for a PCIe M.2 drive that's much, much, faster. Like the Samsung SM951 512GB, nothing can beat that beast. :D

Here's the part list in my head. :D

Intel i7 5930K
EVGA X99 Micro2
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4-2400
Samsung SM951 512GB PCIe M.2

For GPU(s)
Either EVGA GTX 980 SLI or a EVGA GTX 980 Ti (driving a 1440P panel @ 96hz)

mikkelspI have a Noctua NH-U12S cooler for the 5820K i7 which I know won't clear the graphics card in the first slot on the EVGA board.
Is there any problem with leaving the first PCI slot empty and installing the graphics card (EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4GB) in the second PCI slot?

There's no problem with that. That's very small place you need to modified case little.
Even with normal connector you will not be able to connect on so small place.
