HI,
I have an EVGA Z77 Mobo with GTX 470 SLI. I had this setup for well over 2yrs working just fine using the on board Audio.. I bought a brand new GTX980.. Installed everything still working perfect.. Decided to upgrade my GTX980 to the Ti edition, so while shipping my 980 I re-installed my GTX470 and at the same time, reinstalled my OS (win 7 x64), my audio will not work at all,.
It keeps installing 4/8 digital NVIDIA digital audios (due to my cards, although I never remember seeing these let alone attempting to use them)
my "speakers" connection which I assume would be my normal OB audio, Has a red arrow and I cannot do anything at all about it..
Got so frustrated I went back to Windows 8.1 that I had been using and still the same exact thing.. Can anyone please help me get my normal on board audio working?? I have been in IT for 11 Years and this is something I cannot figure out lol.. TY All
I will say I did try to update my BIOS to latest and it was on BIOS 1 options, and it came back with BOOTMGR missing, that's when I had no choice but to move to BIOS 3 (assuming 1 got corrupt) and re-image.

I don't mean to sound condescending but have you installed the motherboards Audio drivers and made sure onboard audio is enabled in the BIOS? You will need to do that before anything else, having the NVIDIA audio drivers is fine so long as you set your default sound device in Control panel>Sound to your onboard audio setup rather than the NVIDIA audio output on the graphics card.

I can say yes for sure, however, I will say no where at all in the BIOS do I see an option for "Onboard Audio" on or off.
And I looked everywhere,,, maybe I missed it.. I am on BIOS 1.22 and if anyone happens to know exactly where this option is please do let me know. TY

Disable the Nvidia audio (all cards) in the Nvidia control panel. See if any change in the Windows Sound panel, then check the Bios. Bios sound control may need a reboot to enable (should be auto by default)

it may be seeing the Nvidia audio and disabling itself

Have tried many times to disable, uninstall etc. no help keeps reinstalling same way. Nvidia COntrol shows all disabled. and again Bios has zero options for on board audio etc..

Says High Def Audio About 8 times (used to say NVidia audio 8 times) and when I install the Reltek drivers it shows realtek but still don't work. red down arrow on "speakers"

If the driver is installed and enabled in device manager and all the your sound cables are connected it has got to be disabled in the bios / somehow?

I have no idea. everything seems perfectly fine and it just wont allow me to enable it, and again if its in the BIOS I certainly cannot find it as an option anywhere.

The HD Audio settings should be in the BIOS under Integrated Peripherals.

The only thing I have heard of that causes a red down arrow is something is not connected / or sometimes disabled. Have you checked the power, if any to the speakers and all the cables? like this:

Make sure when you right click the windows control panel that there are check boxes in the
show disabled and show disconnected devices,
check to make sure your looking at the right speakers you want to use,

Could be broken, is it still under warranty? May be time for an RMA or just pick up a nice pci sound card

I really didn't want to RMA as my new GTX 980Ti is finally on its way to me soon.. But I might have no choice at some point soon. I did just order a 5.1 USB creative Sound Blaster to test for tomorrow.

Mine was enabled by default. It sounds like it's either broken or the BIOS is borked. Maybe try a different BIOS?

You'll have to enter the settings again and make sure your drives are set to AHCI. If that BIOS works and you keep using it you'll have to reactivate Windows.

Well just wanted to update you all since you helped me out.. My USB Creative SoundBlaster plugged in and immediately started working. Guess this is my fix as I am not wanting to RMA my whole MOBO just to fix that. So I have sound, annoying as it was to get here. TY all
