Hey all,

New to the forum, so not sure if this is the right place to post, but here is my issue.

I have an EVGA X58 Classified mother board model 141-BL-E760-A1
Intel i7 920
Windows 7 Ultimate

Current RAM:
12GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600+

My issue:
I am trying to install an additional 12GB of the same RAM since the MB says it can handle 24GB.  When I install the additional 3 sticks of memory, my computer does not even boot up, it just sits at a black screen.  Basically, anytime I put more than 3 sticks of RAM into the MB it just sits at a black screen and will not boot up.

Any help would be awesome!  Again, sorry if this is in the wrong area.

Have you tried resetting the RAM settings so they're on Auto?  More memory may need a different manual configuration, especially if you've manually tweaked them before.

For what it's worth, the memory controller is located in the CPU not on the motherboard like older Intel boards. The 900 series of i processors came out right when they switched from motherboard memory controllers to CPU memory controllers. The 900 series of i processors seemed to have especially weak memory controllers which had a higher failure rate and more issues with higher quantities of memory. If you absolutely cannot get 24 GB of memory to work after verifying that you don't have a bad memory stick and verifying latencies and voltages are correct, it's more likely that it is a CPU issue instead of a motherboard issue.

I had the exact same problem!  It's not your memory or any controller...it's your bios!

All you need to do is download the newest bios file "E760_83.iso" from the downloads section and using a program like DVD Decrypter or Nero...burn that .iso file to a DVD disc.  Then you simply restart your computer...and when it starts the boot process...it'll boot from your DVD (assuming you made your DVD drive a 1st boot device in your current bios)...and it'll walk you through it from there.

It's a little slow...so be patient and don't hit any keys while it's working.
