So am I. This price guessing thing that is happening and the people panicking because the price is too much is actually hilarious. I thought the K|ngp|n would be more than it was on pre-release, and assumed it would be even more at full launch. Yet, it wasn't.

The fact there was multiple prices from multiple sites, and even sites changing their own prices shows that no one will know for sure until release, but will only guess to stir clicks onto their page and get views, making money off of the ads they are hosting.

Hypothetically speaking, Let's say the card IS $799... Poeple are going to complain, only to complain... after they had a bad experience with the 970's? Nvidia decides to give us the 980ti, which will be a premium. So, i would expect to cough up some "extra" cash if they want the premium.

I used to work for Staples a while back, and when i was selling laptops, they always go the cheap route, but they want that "i7" performance for the cheapest laptop. Then when i explained to them they're not going to get it... and tell them the laptop that they "NEED" to get it, they say it's too expensive... If you want premium, you pay for premium.

Update: HWBattle  is claiming that the actual MSRP for the GTX 980 Ti is around $649 US. If  true, this could be a serious deal breaker since the site also reports that the  card will be bundled with Witcher 3 and Batman Akrham Knight. There’s also  mentioned in the piece by the source that GeForce GTX 980 could be getting a  price cut after 980 Ti launches.

It did look like some of the well everything is a rumor at this point still, that the 980ti would use the same idea used on the 970. I hope that's bad information because I don't want to hear that rage all over again.

if it's $650 with two free games, it's time to sell my 980.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make. People complained about the 970's and the way the VRAM is accessed. WHen the 980ti comes out, people will still find something to complain about.

No I followed that bit because well it's human nature for some to just ****. But I was reading more reports on the 980ti could have the same vram issues as the 970's since they will hobble the chips used for it to keep it under titan X specs but let me find the site I was reading as I think I'll make more sense if I can show you.

GTX 980 Ti was based on a new GM200-310 GPU with 2 out of 24 SMM units disabled

Isn't that what was part of the issue with the 970 issues or am I mistaken?

The 970's never had their 4gb "disabled". It has a slower partition which tanks at the last 512mb of the 4gb (there is more to it than just the last 512mb, but i'm not wanting to get into that (not on this thread), which is why most people call it a "3.5GB card". It is really a phenominon that most people have the issue of the constant stutter, and then there is a few people that didnt have the stuttering problem. I think it's mostly hardware related, but beside the point of this topic. For the 980ti, I believe they are just cutting 1/2 of the VRAM of the Titan to give you the 980ti. YOu won't have any slower partitions to that nature. I can't see them doing this to a TI edition, since you'll be paying a premium.

Thanks you, I was of the mindset it was the smm being disabled that lead to the problem.

I should do a lot of things but I DON'T haha...

Too much hassle for SLI.  If it doesn't work, I only get one card.  Single card is always the best!

Maybe with DX12 I don't need SLI, I can add in a couple of my old cards to work with 980Ti.

How is it a hassle? One card in second card in bridge on power cables done. That is the amount of work it takes and SLi works wonderfully. Since I got my first 4gig 670 I've never built a machine without it.

Evga570Maybe with DX12 I don't need SLI, I can add in a couple of my old cards to work with 980Ti.

^  this.. a million times.  People aren't stopping to consider what gaming may be like in 6 months.  I'm using a 780Ti SLI setup, with an old 670 I had laying around for physx games.  If you look at the massive improvement in the API overhead, and the ability to mix GPUs, those with 980s who upgrade might be disappointed soon.  When gaming on DX12 is common, I might just drop in a 970 to replace the 670 and all of a sudden a very large, and cheap, increase in performance.

I think the rather absurd pricing on the 980Ti might have something to do with DX12.  Instead of wholesale GPU swaps, people can just upgrade the weakest GPU in their system and call it a day.  IMO, it's going to put a rather large damper on top end GPU sales.  Heck, if you're MB supports it, you could just buy super cheap GPUs off ebay and run 4 of them with absurd performance levels.

I could be wrong but it seems worthwhile to have some patience and see how it plays out.

Now since apparently this new graphics card will have a completely different GPU then the 980....Does that mean we wont get a step up option? :c i still have 14 days left on my 980 classified

I guess you will find out in the next 14 days...  until then, only EVGA employees could answer you, and since they won't answer you until they announce it, you won't know until they announce it, even if it is 15 days from now.

if it's $650 with two free games, it's time to sell my 980.

Wouldn't it be better to get another 980?

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't do SLI.

You should.

I should do a lot of things but I DON'T haha...

Too much hassle for SLI.  If it doesn't work, I only get one card.  Single card is always the best!

Today's SLI is not to be compared with SLI 10 years ago. It's different now and better. There is no "hassle". The only other "hassle" is putting the extra card in the PC...
