Hello guys, maybe someone can point me in the right direction with this problem im having. The router is an buffalo airstation currently used in the share house i stay at in tokyo, it was Reset a week ago and worked fine for a few days but for three days now i am constantly kicked offline or spammed with request to login to the router when trying to browse websites. While logged in the router settings it will sometimes just give me an error 404 while switching to the different setting pages. I am unsure but i think the internet is pppoe if this makes some sort of difference. Also, as an experiment I would try to load a webpage on my laptop during the time it would kick me offline on my desktop and it would work on the laptop most of the time so I am almost positive its some kind of setting on the router.

How old is the router?  This sounds like something flaking out - especially if it behaves itself for a little bit after pulling power and letting it sit a minute.

Im not sure how old it is, model WHR-300, most of what I find on it is Japanese. Unplugging it does not fix anything, it works the same. I can somewhat browse the internet for a minute or two and then get prompted with a box saying xxxxxxx.com is requesting authentication from airstation router 192.168.11.1. Most of the time when I input the password it just takes me to the routers setting page.

Having not knowing how it reset, I'd poke a paperclip in the pin hole and hold it there for five to ten seconds. I'd also restart the modem. Then, I'd connect to the router's gateway IP and begin with the step by step configuration then check manually. If still not OK, I'd look into getting a new router.

If this is the case then you may need the authentication userid/password for the PPPoE connection for the airstation to utilize in order to properly route your packets through the provider. The router itself should be fairly straight forward for the settings page. The default router IP address is the 192.168.11.1 you are seeing. Inside there, for the network WAN configuration it will, by default, be set to DHCP. You may need to set that to DHCP using PPPoE and enter your credentials in order for that WAN port to gain the proper access and IP addressing so it can populate your routing table and allow your normal browsing/downloading/email/whatever through it.

The settings you are looking for should be similar to the following: PPPoE Settings for Buffalo Routers.

I would definitely hook up directly to the router with an ethernet cable while you are logged into it and setting everything up. As directed by others, I would also recommend doing a hard reset on it before doing that, by holding that reset button down for 5-10 seconds and restart it.

Thanks for the help, it is definitely pppoe, when I hard reset it about 2 weeks ago I had to wait for the house manager to come input all the information in. I hard reset it for another reason that is unrelated and after he entered the information everything was fine for a week until these things started happening. I will attempt to translate the menus and look into these settings suggested, thank you.

It could also be that if the router in question is able to have a firmware upgrade (and if there is a firmware upgrade available) that might be all it needs.
