Hi!

So I bought this EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified Kingpin graphics card second hand, and it turns out the card suffers from coil whine in certain games. Happens in games like Crysis, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Elite: Dangerous, and a few others. The only way I can get rid of it, is by either activating v-sync, which I really do not like mind you, or set a fps limiter of 60 or so (which kinda beats the purpose of such a high performance card).

How would I proceed with this matter?

Thank you for your assistance.

Vsync is or Adaptive VSync are very useful settings for me and with GeForce work better than on Radeon.
Special is useful for older games. Example I play now Assassins Creed II and with Vsync clock is 650MHz and fan set on Auto with 45C temp in games... If I disable VSync clock will go much higher, temps too, fan start to spin faster without reason at all.
But if you need more performance card will work 98-99% and with Adaptive VSync... For me that's useful settings.

Maybe you are not aware but quiet coil whine with extremely high fps is common thing for GeForce and Radeon.
You will not lose nothing if you enable VSync... But if you hear coil whine when fps is 70-80-90-100fps that's not normal.

Adaptive sync does make it go away, since it caps the fps. But it's a cheap solution. This can cause major issues with certain games, like stuttering.

But anyway it seems the previous owner might consider taking the card back, and return my money. But it will take some time. I will update this in case nothing happens in this regard.

What power supply do you have? If it is a less than stellar version, that can cause coil whine.

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2, and it's brand new. For the record I'm not experiencing any coil whine whatsoever with my Asus GTX 780 Ti Matrix Platinum, so I'm confident we can rule out any other system components being the cause.

Then it sounds like the classified is definitely the problem, unfortunately. I am sorry to hear that.

If you can get a refund, I think it could be a good thing and a good seller.

Yeah I'm not really sure. He seems to be backing out, since he has to sell his graphics cards in order to give me money back. I think it's best to RMA it then.

You can definitely RMA is for sure. Just select Guest RMA at the top in the support tab, and it will be done in no time almost.
