Just purchased an open box EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ from Microcenter...or at-least I think and hope I did.

I noticed the Warranty sticker looked funky (like someone removed and replaced it) compared it to the one on the box in-store and everything matched.

Once I got home I looked closer at the card and noticed there's another sticker

The Black & White Warranty Sticker with the Model and Serial says P/N: 04G-P4-3975-KR
Opposite the inputs on the back of the card, not too far away from the warranty sticker there is another Black and Darker White sticker that says 04G-P4-3975-B6

And I am worried since it looks like it was tampered with and I used to work retail, so I am aware of what people can and do.

My fear is that someone wanted to upgrade to the 2.0+ from the 2.0 and didn't want to pay so they purchased a 2.0+, took their 2.0 out, swapped the stickers, repackaged it in the 2.0+ box, and returned it for their money back.

Please tell me I am worried over nothing, I really want to install this card, RIGHT NOW, but I want to make sure.

A google search shows me several overseas (Asia, Australia, German, and Latin America) EVGA pages that say "Product Specs," all the cards listed has a "PDF coming soon" next to it!

I have no idea what it means. Can someone explain to me what the different parts of the part number mean?

04G Looks like the series, Titan is 12G so 04G must be the GTX9XX series
P4 might mean full size since many of the low profile cards are labeled P3
3975 Looks like the actual model number since it looks like it's unique to the model, in this case EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+
KR/B6 Is the only one I can't figure out. Most of the newer cards are KR. The only ones on EVGA product page that aren't KR are OLD Geforce 6200 and older cards that are LR, and even those don't seem to have a real pattern.

Please help!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ - (04G-P4-3975-B6) in other words, the 04G-P4-3975-B6 is the part number for the SSC ACX 2.0+ in ASIA.
The model number of 04G-P4-3975, is the most important part. The last two digits are for warranty info.

So what does that mean for this card and/or me? Did someone return an Asian card to my microcenter?

I alread registered it on the site with the serial on the Warranty sticker, the one that says -KR

B6 isn't a warranty suffix, but KR is and that means 3 year warranty.

Apparently it is is Asia for warranty and or sales. In any event, it doesn't affect the model number.

Mine looks similar, even down to how the warranty sticker on the left looks (maybe I am freaking out for nothing then)...except to the right mine looks slightly different https:// goo.gl/photos/5ScLHtVCWGiWKA1a7 (remove the space between https and goo.gl)

Does that mean I have an Asian card? Will there be compatibility issues?

Odd... their warranty page doesn't specify the warranty suffixes for anything other than the 1 year exceptions:

The picture looks fine to be, but to get a defenitive answer, i'd just contact EVGA and make sure... Their tech support is open 24/7.

My card I just got back on warranty was a B6 prefix on one sticker and a KR on another. You could compile the cards and see that the stickers were diffrient colors, shapes and sizes. I called EVGE asking about it and they said it was recertified?

Re: HELP!: Am I worried for nothing? 2015/05/29 05:03:09 (permalink)
Yea if I remember correctly the B6 means it was recertified as bsmegreg said. Basically if someone returns a card they, not sure if the retailer sends it back to EVGA or they do it themselves, but someone tested the card to be sure it worked and performed as it was supposed to and then stuck that B6 recertified sticker on it.

I do think the open box and sticker means it does not carry the full three year warranty though not sure what it is, maybe 1 year. I could be wrong as I've not followed what changes EVGA has done with their warranty in the past few years besides go from lifetime to 5 years then 3 years on their retail GPU's.

Overall I'd say you more then likely have nothing to worry about on any front as long as you got a good deal. I've not had a EVGA graphics card fail yet and one, Geforce 5200, is going on about 14 years of use.  Most cards returned to brick and mortar stores are returned because the card does not physically fit in their case and/or turns out their power supply is not powerful enough to run it.
