I have never eaten there before but have walked by the place several times though.  Haven't been down to the historic district lately.  Don't go down there often due to all of the tourism.  

You should stop in there sometime... The girl that I met works there....  Yes I met her while she was working and my parents made the whole situation SUPER awkward....  I would of never talked to her if it weren't for my dad making it awkward however...  Hahaha!!!!  Maybe we can meet up if I come down there again this year...  I know it'd be cool to see some of your builds and pay you to sleeve my cables when I live down there (if you offer that service)

Looked at apartments today... Took many virtual tours... I'm pretty sure I found a nice complex in Palatka... I can't wait to get out of the history business and finally into my career of EMS in my new place of residence!!!

Yeah I'm going to try and avoid Jacksonville whenever possible... I have an FN USA .40 and a trusty FN57 that'll be going with me... Of course you can never have too much protection so I'll probably pick up two more before I move... I don't really want to live on the Gulf Coast... I like the history of the area that I'll live in as well...

Jeesh, I would avoid palatka more than Jax. Sorry about the delay responding, haven't ever eaten there but have been to Saint Augustine a few times. Nice area.

Southwest of Jax like where Drerex and I are is a decent enough area, but honestly I would avoid most of Florida personally. I hate about 95% of it.

Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to be realistic... But I would think long and hard before I moved out of state after a waitress. I really don't intend that to be mean it's just you have to understand a waitress's income can be very volatile.

In addition, you said you just met this girl, so before making a major financial commitment to maybe be with her if she's still interested I would advise you to move slowly and do long distance with her. I've been long distance with my girlfriend for 3.5 years and it's not fun, but it is doable and worthwhile.

I understand... It goes a little deeper though than just a relationship... Hell if that fails in the first 20 minutes I'll be like whatever and be happy... Why would you avoid Palatka? According to the crime statistics the odds of being robbed are 1 in 123 (don't laugh haha) where I live now it's like 1 in 74... Rape doesn't seem to be an issue as I'm a 6'4" male... I was thinking the place I found wasn't that bad as it's not far from the school... I'll look where you are at... Did you say fruit cove? Also thanks for your concern I understand you're not trying to be mean.. In fact it's good that people are willing to tell people these things... It just goes further than that... For instance the job market for what I want to do is better than here...

A few of us live down here, Crap is not that far away from me, you are probably about a 2-3 hour or so drive from me if your moving to St Augustine.

Way too hot there.. even 'winter' is too much - it's the humidity that's a killer. Good luck with the move.. and yeah, when I saw the op about soul mate I groaned as well.. No state income tax in Florida though, that's a bonus I guess...

Palatka sucks, might look good on the map, but id take Jax over Palatka. You might want to consider Palm Coast area, Just north of Daytona and Just south of St Augstine.
Been in FL most of my life, place is hot as hell, and full of stupid people, but its home. Im in New Smyrna which is south of Daytona. if your still commited, stay close to the coast, (East) and if you decide to go to west coast, Tampa is a cool place to live (spent 10 years there) Orlando is decent too. But Palatka is in the sticks. Trust me on that one. You have my # text if you make it down here. I'm about 45 min. from St. Augustine.

Here ya go: Palatka crime rate ...double US average, in some years triple, so yeah, crime. Low on murders, but high on assaults, theft and burglary. Sounds like a real nice town... said nobody ever.

So I'm moving to the St. Augustine area of Florida next May... I actually just got back from vacation there and decided I liked it that much... Plus I met my soulmate there hahahaha!!! Anyone live around those parts?

Wait until I get there, then see if you recant your statement!  Hahaha I'm actually very laid back and the neighborhood wont go anywhere when I'm there...  If anything more people will move there because I'm there....  Just Kidding I'm full of myself man...  Anyways, I've looked at Fruit Cove some and I think I like that area as well...  Just can't find any apartments in St. Augustine that aren't marked up or ones that don't need any work...  As someone in EMS I wont really have time to do any home improvement, especially since I'll be going to school as well...  More updates to come hopefully this thread can stay open and I can update as the year progresses.

How are the state troopers down there when it comes to speeding? Are they ready to hang speeders?

In a speed limit 65 zone you are pretty much fine up to around 75-80. (YMMV). I've never been pulled over and I regularly pull 80+ on I295 and I95, but a key thing is keep an eye out ahead for radaring and don't whip through traffic. If the left lane is flowing at 82 and you're doing 84 and zooming between lanes you will get a massive ticket, if it's flowing at 82 and you do 82 you will be fine. Just go with everyone else, don't be nuts and try to race. On a personal note, don't tailgate, I brake for tailgaters, and boy it makes people mad. (Which is fine with me, I don't want them cruising at 85MPH 10 feet off my bumper.
 
Like I said, YMMV, be careful, go with traffic and you'll likely never be pulled over.
 
Still can't see why you want to come here lol. I hate Florida, in theory in 2 years when I graduate college I will be moving to Texas to start a company, no plans to return to Florida except to see family or for business.
