Hello,

I'm looking at purchasing one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487099

I currently have a 2600k OC'd to 4.5 Ghz, and a GTX 680 Classified 4GB. Has anyone paired this card with this processor? If so, what kind of performance did you experience? Currently, I mainly use iRacing, GTA V, and BF4.

Also, I'm looking to build an entirely new PC in the fall when Skylake is released. My original plan was to put 2 980s in SLI with the new machine.

So, my real question is: Would it be worth it for me to go ahead and buy this car and put it in my existing machine, then just buy one more when it comes time to complete the new build? Or would the performance gain not be enough with my current system to justify it?

    Might as well just wait until the 980 ti is release next month to see how it preforms
    My guess it'll be around the same cost

    As for your system no point in asking or worrying when you're planning on building a new one later this year anyway

    What kind of performance increase should I be expecting versus the 980 K|INGP|N? Or is it just a wait and see?

    The big question is just what resolution you are playing at. I'm at 4k and managing just fine with Titan X SLI on a 4.8 GHz 2600k (I've got a PLX Z68 motherboard so both cards run at PCI-e 2.0 x16).

    A 4.5 GHz 2600k is probably about the same as a stock 4770k, so you are likely fine on a single GPU.

    All that said, I'd tell you to wait on a purchase at least a month, as prices on the 980s may drop in response to the 980ti / AMD 300 series launches coming in June.

    it would be good but I would wait until the Ti hits and gets reviewed no use in buying a older card when a new one is this close to coming out.

    If you have no hard and fast plans above 1080 for a year or so the 980 will be MORE than enough to make you happy ..... think like this;

    NEED or want. I have SLI 980 KPE and can easily play anything I want at 1440 with a single on a single monitor with ZERO issues. ;)

    I use a single GTX980 to play at 1440p and have zero issues at 60Hz (I'm a VSync lover, so for me 60FPS maxed out games are my goal).

    If you don't want to buy a more resulution monitor or a high 1080p refresh rate one, you will be well served using a GTX970.
