Since furmark has been limited in drivers I searched for a way to heat up my cards (2x GTX 580 SLI).
I came across MSI Kombustor, but I noticed only one card was used.
Playing with NVIDIA Inspector I created a profile for kombustor 3 and now both cards are used.
Fiddling with the settings I found a way to maximize heat.
For example: with my setting (air cooled, stock fans, custom fan curves and fully overclocked cards) using Valley in Extreme HD mode, my temps are 82 for the primary card and 69 for the secondary (after an hour of looping).
With kombustor3 and the profile I created, the cards heat with a steeper curve up and maximize (99 degrees) in a few minutes, then thing get weird and ugly :D

If you are interested in further testing here is the setup:

1) MSI Afterburner Version 4.1.0.7013
2) MSI Kombustor 3 (launched clicking the K in MSI Afterburner: this will run it in windowed furmark mode)
3) NVIDIA Display Drivers 335.23 (which are the fastest for my cards, the newer drivers are 5 to 10% slower)

NVIDIA Inspector profile for Kombustor 3: https://www.sendspace.com/file/ja2pop

Let me know and be careful to temps. If you don't have a good cooling this may harm your cards.

Here is a screenshot of a few seconds of run:

Why the hell would you or anyone want to do that, especially on air?

Some people. What the heck is the point of this. You know they disabled formats because it was killing cards, yeah?

Well, I do believe if someone does something like this, and then posts it, it should instantly void their warranty for intentional destruction of the cards.

Hes trying to burn up his 580's which have lifetime warranty to get some upgrades.

If that's the case then why come here to mention it
This whole thing just seems like a trolling effort

Not trolling. All 580 warranties should already be voided by now. And my cards are alive.
What you are asking has already been answered by furmark people.
Stress testing is a useful thing if done correctly.
I didn't code kombustor.
I didn't code Nvidia Inspector.

And I didn't limit furmark as NVIDIA did.

As a sucurity expert, pointing this out should be of help. Imagine someone intruding your pc and being able to burn your cards or your house or do any kind of damage.
IMHO this is a useful infos, for testers, Nvidia engineers or anyone (except of course the ones who just commented this post) :P

Wrong place to post. You should have sent your report to NVIDIA.

This issue was addressed in 2010 when tons of motherboards were burning out because of it, especially GTX 580 SLI set-ups. It would burn out the 24 pin connector and melt the top quarter of the 24 pin connector and ruin the motherboard.

http://forums.evga.com/24pin-ATX-power-plug-meltdowns-Need-user-data-from-unaffected-computers-m749507.aspx

A lot of people thought it was limited to X58 boards back then... until we saw people moving over to sandy bridge and ivy bridge set-ups and keep their GTX 480/580 SLI set-ups and it was happening on those too. The only way to assure the cards didn't kill a motherboard without extra power to the PCI-E slots was to add more with something that was shown in that link I posted or this:
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=100-MB-PB01-BR

Some revisions of X58 by Asus added a molex connector for the PCI-E slots.

The GPU shut down temp is 105C without the limiter, so it can pull a considerable amount of power without it as shown in this review:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_580_SLI/23.html

If you are running any of those programs to break the limiter, just remember... they have terms and conditions that tell you this kind of thing can happen when running benchmarks. Also, if you are running these kinds of programs you should know you are at risk and should take precautions to avoid it, like extra cooling to avoid degradation of the GPU from heat which usually happens in the mid to upper 90C range.

Would picking up a couple 580's and doing this to them (running around 80c) be cheaper than running a space heater to hear your room?

My Laptop (GE63VR-7RF):
-7700HQ.
-16GB RAM.
-GTX 1070.
-128GB SSD.
-1X 1TB 7200 spinny drive.

Exactly, Rain Stryke. But this "setup" works without disabling the limiter (like GPU-Z does)
That's why I find this interesting.
It also can be interesting as a hardware stress test to check power or cooling (for small periods of time).

Not likely, for that I would go back a generation or 2.  The other half referred to my old 8800 Ultra as a space heater,, or a 9800GX2, also a 295.

my GTX 780 ti kingpin put out some heat, with the 2 8 pin and 1 6 pin it can eat power well, luckily the temp limiter (that I didn't mess with) kicks in to keep things from getting too hot, but I'm guessing it could get up there pretty high.
I'd still go with a space heater if you need heat however.

Well if you want to stress your cards safely then my advice would be to use folding at home as that stresses the cards quite well.
