I think the Z97 Classified has a connection for extra PCIe power, however I plan on running 3-way SLI and that'll take up all 6 of my PCIe cables, Should I use a 2xMolex to 6 pin adapter for it, or leave it empty?

Motherboard will be a Z97 Classified, and PSU a EVGA 1000w p2, with 3 GTX 980s in 3 way SLI

It would be beneficial to use the supplemental PCI-E 6pin Power connector since you are running SLI. Use the eight pin to six/eight pin cables for your cards.

I know, the problem is I won't have a free six/eight/pin cable as they'll all be used by my cards.

If you use the eight pin to eight/six pin cable that only uses one vga port on your power supply. This should work unless you have a classified or kingpin cards.

Hmm ok, guess that shouldn't be a problem they are ACX 2.0 SC so shouldn't be super heavy on the power draw.

If you are using 3 GPU's I highly suggest using the extra 6 pin power connector for the pcie lanes.  What power supply do you have?

this will be my power supply: http://www.evga.com/Produ...aspx?pn=220-P2-1000-XR
only EVGA power supply I see with more connections is the 1600w and I'm guessing that's a bit much as it's not 4-way and these aren't super-power hungry cards.

only has 6 PCI power cable ports, so either I'd have to have one cable power one card instead of two, or use something like a molex to 6 pin adaptor, not sure on the better option.

I would either use a molex to 6 pin or make a cable 6 pin to 6 pin.  I personally would probably just make a cable, but that's a lot more time consuming than buying one. lol

For the power draw I would say the 2xMolex to 6pin PCIE is perfectly safe and will add the power needed to reduce the load on the 24 pin.  These aren't 480's so it is HIGHLY unlikely that you would see the 24 pin damage form back in the day, but dividing the load is still a good idea.  The molex adapter would be the quickest/easiest way to go.

I would use every resource available ...... think Tim the Tool Man.
Keep in mind the second 8 pins does add power to the board also. ;)

I agree, use the additional pcie power, also make sure to select this in the BIOS too!!! otherwise it will still run off of the 24 pin... Also the second 8pin connector is for CPU power specifically... Different channels, and as far as I know shouldn't affect pcie power....
