Does anyone knows the pump RPM for this EVGA Hybrid?

Due to there is some annoying noise coming from pump I want to connect the pump power cable to motherboard so I can put the Pump RPM little down to see if it makes noise goes away.

All my fans are very low rpm such as 700 RPM so it is not noticeable when I play the game. But in idle it annoying me.

It is same noise that MJS85 post on this thread on page 1.

I am planning to use the adapter so I can put the pump power cable to motherboard to control the speed.

Is it OK if I put the pump RPM down?

Have a read through the HYBRID thread.  I think I remember some folks addressing this.  You might also check the Asetek site and see if it lists out that information.

Thanks. Yes I did see mjs85 already address same problem as mine. That is why I do same as mjs85. I will check asetek site. Thanks for the tip

If you haven't read through it, this is the thread I was referring to.  I could be mistaken, but I think some of that was addressed here.

Hey,

The connection from the aio is not pwm. You have to get a mini-gpu 4pin to pwn adapter. This way you could plug it straight into the motherboard but i find it useless. I have no sound coming from the pump AT ALL! I expected it but it never came... So do what you want to do. Both both will work very well.

Thanks for the reply! Could you tell me if these are the right cables?  or  or  ? If not could you send me a link? I can't seet to be able to find it anywhere. Thanks a ton!

& good for you - I unfortunately have a very audible low/deep humm :(. Contacted EVGA and will be getting a replacement - hopefully it won't have it, but if it does, I'm going to try this workaround.

I was having same problem. It is not very audiable if I put my fan on 1100 RPM. But on 700 RPM I can hear that low buzzing sound. I have 3 of EVGA Hybrid Kit and it happen all of them.

So I bought the cable below link

It is on the way to me now. I should expect to arrive on Monday. I hope it reduce the noise even on Fan RPM as 700 when I connect to MB.

Thanks Avengers. I know that if I use the shroud from EVGA it has lots of room for cable.

But since I am working with Reference Cooler I need the extension

Please see below picture that I am working with

Everything seems perfectly fit except the cable is little short..

that looks great BUT wouldnt the gap in the cooler stop the air from flowing around the heatsink liquid cooler bit with the EVGA logo on it (cant for the life of me think of what it is called lmao). atleast with the shroud the air from the fan would have to flow all the way to the other side if the card?

I ended up cutting 2 holes on the stock shroud. Didn't come out too bad

I recommend taking your time if your gonna cut it. My shroud cracked on one side but it ended up helping because the pump is big and doesn't fit the stock shroud. I hope that extra pressure doesn't jack up the card. I love it though, currently playing GTA V in 4k at 60fps and 42c.

By help with MJS85 in this forum. I have received the cable from Moddiy yesterday. I connect the pump power cable to MB with adapter.

I went to MB bios and set the pump to DC mode with 70%.

It worked well and there is no more buzzing sound since the pump is running at 70% power always.

Also good thing about this is that when I played the game around 1 hour the temp maxed up around 48 degree then I shut the game. When it becomes idle the temp goes down but very slowly. I think since the power from PCB is in idle that makes pump to run slow. But with MB setting it is running 70% so the temp keep drop on idle and makes it 24 degree on idle in 1 mins.

The bad thing about this is that it might makes the pump lifespan short since it is working 70% even on idle. Well I guess I am not going to use this cooler for like next 3 or 4 years so it should not be the problem and also the cooler is quite cheap so if it is not working I am willing to buy another.

Anyway the result is great and finally there is no more buzzing sound with system fans at 700 rpm

Thanks mjs85.

Hey guys,

two very noobish questions here, so please be patient with me ;)
1. As I understand it, you have to setup the fan speed manualy (in Bios?) to certain RPM? And if I'd like to have it controlled via software I have to buy a cable adapter of some sort? And finally: is one way better than the other? I mean I think that it would be weird to have the same RPM in idle and while gaming, but that's just me ;)
2. I have a very simple fan setup in my case, which is Fractal Design Define R5 base setup: one fan in front and one in the back. I would imagine the best place for AIO fan is the front below the intake fan?

Thanks in advance for any answers :)

A Gpu would normally run hotter than a CPU for longer periods, especially when gaming so if I was to do this I would be setting the Gpu aio up as an exhaust. In wouldn't want any of the air that has gone through that rad in my case.

But a lot of people in here are using them as intakes.

Perfect - glad to hear that! Well you can download SpeedFan () and control the speeds of that PWM connection dynamically. That's what i do for my fans and am able to ramp them up when I need them and down when I don't. Plus - if the pump dies, I think EVGA would replace it as they have awesome warranty and they have no way of knowing you controlled the speed dynamically (which shouldn't affect the life of the pump anyway - unless used in extreme scenarios). If you registered the product with EVGA (which happens automatically I think if you buy it straight from them) you have 2 years warranty which is good enough for me.

As per what I wrote above - get the speedfan software, connect the pump with appropriate cable you can use (I think)  or  (as stated above - not sure about the difference between them somebody here might be able to tell you if they are both right) and you will be able to (as stated above) control the speed of your pump dynamically. Assuming you want to controll just the fan, thats much easier :D. The included fan should theoretically be able to be controlled through PWM connection on your motherboard even though its only 3 pin. I connected PWM splitter to my mobo and the fan to it and am able to controll it - no idea how that works since its a 3 pin fan, but hey - Ill take it :D. Assuming my motherboard or something I did is special, just get a PWM (4 pin capable) high static pressure fan and connect them to your motherboard and then control through speedfan. You can also get 3 pin fans and control them through the included fan controller in R5 or - connect them to the 4 pin and hope it works :). I recommend Gentle Typhoons AP14 or 15 for best performance to noise levels - they are very hard to get, look like ****, but they work the best - absolutely blown my Noctuans NF-F12 out of the water - though they are 3 pin so keep that in mind (works for me though).

Now R5 - thats what I have. It depends on how you are cooling your CPU. Ideally, you would want to exhaust the hot air as others here have stated. Here are few options if you don't want to open the top moduvents (I want silence so thats what I'm going with).

A) IF you are AIR cooling your CPU:
A1: put 2x140 & 1x120 (or 3x120) as front intake (get rid of the driver cages and the shroud and you can fit 120mm fan above the 2x140 you have in front), then put AIO as bottom exhaust. I haven't tested it but it should work. You might need to elevate your case for it a bit to allow the hot air to get out
A2: put 1x140 and 1x120 (or 2x120) as front intake on top, and run push&pull (depending on a fan you use) intake on the bottom for the GPU radiator. Now this can work as is - but will likely heat up your other components so what you should do is create a custom housing for the GPU radiator (you can use old cardboard box and just scissors and some tape to create it). Basically you create a large anough box around the GPU radiator on the bottom that will direct the heat down outside of the case. This is what I have done - I have two gentle typhoons AP-14 running in push pull and then exhausting the air through the housing out of the case on the bottom. With my OCd card, it never gets above 61/62C. You might get a better performance from scenario A1 - which is a lot less work, but I haven't tested that yet. You can also not do the custom box around it, and your system still should work, but its not optimal.

B) if you are watercooling your CPU
Just do the same thing as above, but put the CPU rad in the place of the GPU rad in scenarios A1/A2 (provided you are using 120mm rad/or that your 240 will fit there and that you have long enough tubing). and put the GPU rad as rear exhaust.

Just experiment with what works the best for you. I also recommend positioning one fan to blow cold air over the Titan itself as that might help lower the VRM temperatures (get a back-plate if you don't have it yet they get incredibly hot).

And GET MORE FANS as I stated you should have as much intake as possible - 1 fan is not enough!!! :D

Re: The Official Titan X and HYBRID Water Cooler (All in One) for GTX 980 Thread 2015/05/26 06:53:05 (permalink)
Thanks, I guess what I am asking is: is there any downside to just set the RPM at a certain level and keep it that way forever? Would it be more efficient than dynamically controlled fan?

There is a downside - obviously. If you set it low, you get more silence, but less performance. If you set it high, you get more performance but less silence. Thats physics! :) Now if you dynamically controll it, you get best of both words :)

Hehe, I understand that much. Thanks for the explanation though :D I thought that it might have some effect on the lifetime of the pump to have it run all the time with the same RPM. But I guess I am just overthinking it. Thanks again, cheers.

So as much as I want to get the hybrid cooler due to it being the best fit for titan X, I just want to make sure that this hybrid cooler won't become obsolete once I replace the titan x.  Will Evga be releasing separate bracket for future cards to be used with the aio?  Or will every next generation gpu (pascal?) have its own hybrid cooler that will be incompatible with the old hybrid cooler?  This is what is making me waver between a bracket + corsair H90 with much weaker component cooling and going with hybrid cooler with risk of being useless after one year.

Has anyone used a fan splitter on it to setup a push pull build with it? I went to do it this weekend but found out all I had laying around was pwm cables and fans. I was surprised to see the power to the fan being only two pins.

i dont know if this is the right thread but...
my question is if i install the evga water cooling kit to my evga gtx 980 SC acx2.0, will it void the warranty?
i know i will have to break the seal(if there is one) to replace the acx 2.0 cooler but is it a better idea to buy gtx 980 hybrid instead? i am not getting an option to 'upgrade' in my account

If the card is from EVGA then no, they are one of the few if not the only one who don't seem to mind. Just remember to keep track of ALL the parts, screws and everything. If you send it in for work it needs to be put back to how it was when you bought it. I got a pair of hybrid coolers I put on myself and let me tell you ahead of time the directions in the box are wrong and it is a pain in the ass.

I dont think you can install the Hybrid Kit on GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0

Since Hybrid Cooler require the blow cooler to cool the vram. But ACX 2.0 Cooler does not have the blow cooler. The only way you can fit the Hybrid Cooler is that you buy the reference cooler + Hybrid Cooler combine.

Also for warranty it is better to ask EVGA directly.
