Got it back in 2010 when it was $200 for only the 120GB version, seems to hold up pretty well

It has probably exceeded it's life cycle. Make sure you make a full backup in case it should die suddenly one day.

Despite that the read write speed is excellent

The life cycle on SSDs are getting better and they're faster than mechanical HDs but the mechanical HD lifespan is still on the average much longer.

I have a Vertex also and it runs strong never had a drive last this long. I had 2 but I gave one away and its still working also.I don't think I have ever had a spin drive spin its way threw a long life.  I also never had as many working drives as I do now, and working with out issues. Most are 3 to 5 years old. They are all SSDs. One Thing I do trust for backups are my Blu-Ray discs. It takes no time at all To load on to SSDs. Even If you lose the SSDs, In a matter of 1-2 hours you can reload and download every thing you lost on to a new one. Thanks to the speed of having SSDs. I love SSD drives. Computers would not be as awesome with out them.

My big mouth and 2 cents thank you.

My WDs 640s and 1GB are 5 1/2 and still rolling along.  I do have Samsung SSD but I still use the WDs for backup.  1 copy on each of 2 HDDs.  I run the WD 24/7 and have had them last for 8+ years be just replaced for the heck of it.
