Hello every new here and was wondering if anyone could help me with a decision on replacing my video card in my Alienware m17r2. I am looking at a nvidia gtx 660m 2GB. My card I have at the moment is original and has major issues going on. For example I see different color squares on the screen and I get flashing going on. It shuts the system down at times. I really think it is about to quit so was looking at the 660m on ebay.
Do you think its a good choice? Also when they say right side are they meaning the right side when the system is upside down and opened or are they talking right side when of the keyboard? very confusing . I also have question to what type or size of thermal pad I need.

Thanks
Jan

I'm using gtx 660 x 2 I think its a good card for the price ) I have had no problems playing any high end games up to latest games on single card only game that 660 couldn't handle was watchdog on ultra, it could on high. # gpu is not all that's needed to play high end games,
x 2 and its on ultra on all games so far to the market. the 660 will take up 2 slots of room on your mobo and will fit in any pcie 3 slot.
check your monitor cable is not loose.
is your gpu overheating. a overheating gpu will cause you gpu drivers to shut down and restart.
is your cpu overheating. a overheating cpu will cause your system to shut down.
do'not use thermal pad on gpu use thermal paste
to your question about right # no idea what your referring to
    .

Looks like you can try it since it's a MXM 3.0b card. I'd give it a try. The highest end card I'd really attempt is the HD5870M due to no update in the BIOS since 2011 but it doesn't seem worth it cause of how much they still go for.

Now thinking about it. I would try a GTX 485M.
