I know this is an old thread, but it came up in my search for slot 1 running x8 and slot 4 running x16 in Sli. I found that I had to use slot 2 and slot 4 to get X16 on both cards according to the bios. Hopefully this helps anyone else with the same issue.

Yeah, it's been discussed back an forth. EVGA didn't label it very clearly and always meant 2 and 4 to run at x16 together.. But it shows x16 for lane 1.. That only applies when there is only one card installed, not with 2.

if you use slot 2 and 4, the lanes will read x16. They are NOT actually running at x16, they just display x16 to give you a warm and fuzzy that they are running at that speed. Lime green will go with anything you want it to. Running slot 1 and 3 will give you x8, which is all that you really need.

It won't run both cards at x16. The CPU only has 16 pcie lanes. It will run at x8/x8.

That board will only run at x8/x8 also. It's the CPU not the board. The CPU only supports x16 lanes.

If you ant x16/x16 then yeah you'll have to get the x99 platform. Also you will need to get the 5930k or 5960x CPU, not a 5820k.

LOL, I love these folks who want to go X99 just to have full 16/16 SLI!!! I guess they don't read up enough on what they really need to drive their machines and workload... They also don't understand the concept of a "bottleneck".... For a two way SLI, 8/8 PCIE gen 3 will not be a bottleneck at all, especially with NVIDEA cards where so much info is being passed along between the SLI fingers... But hey, spend the money if you got it I guess? And of course if your doing content creation or other multiple tasks, other highly threaded workloads, etc than sure x99 makes sense... But to go x99 bc you want to sli two cards? LMFAO

Lol. Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I guess I'll have to "settle" for my x8/x8 SLI :( Lol

rchapman45 Don't know who else if any are having issues with the PCIe slots running at 16x as supposedly in the specs, but mine is not. I have a 780ti in slot 1 at 16x then I install a second card and it drops to 8x. I install in slot 1 and slot 4 and S1 is 8x and S4 is now 16x. Very frustrating
I'm having the same issue... with two old Radeon 6870's... S1 is in 8X and S4 is in 16X Update: Never mind... I didn't read the post on the second page before I put this up.
