I have a ticket in with EVGA, just to update my progress etc with them...but 5 of us have the same configuration (Classified MB) expect one with an FTW MB and we all have sound issues with the crackling and static sounds through our headsets. Its a random occurrence and varies, you can go months and the sound is fine but then the next day it blows up, or it happens a couple times in a week and then disappears. You could be watching YouTube, playing games, reading the web, or just idle and come back and its there. We have to reboot the machine to stop it and then everything is fine again. EVGA told me to uninstall the HD Audio from Nvidia which we did, we still got it but not for a while, I got it again but took a few months to happen. EVGA mentioned possible bad shielding but they don't really know. If someone has an answer that would be great, all of us are using the sounds ports on the back of the motherboard, except one other person who uses USB (he still gets it too). I use the display port to my monitor, the others DVI 4 of us use 980 classifieds in sli and the other person 970 FTW single card with the FTW MB I cannot force this to occur, it just happens when it wants too.

I also got that loud static pinch of noise a few times already as I thought I was going to blow an ear off or headphones even though the volume settings were set to low while gaming.

I get a little bit , but only on the rear port to the side speakers. Know it sounds complicated. But I do know it's from these cheap desktop speakers I use on this port, because if I switch them off, it goes away. Switch them back on and it comes back. But dude, this is splitting hairs. Little crackles, really? I do not hear it with my headset Audio-Technica Active noise cancelling headphones. I love this EVGA board. It is killer. Plays Pandora better than my surround sound rigs and iTunes is flawless. Movies on Netflix are terrific. Never thought I'd watch movies on my computer, but I do and it's perfect. I am connected with DVI and not Display port. When I get a new monitor, it will have a display port connector and I plan to use this. So, then we'll see. Until then....

Go into the Device Manager. Open sound, video and game controllers. What do you see?

With Sennheiser headphones, loud static and crackling sound, very loud, from time to time (Varies when it happens as explained in my post above), have to reboot to get rid of it, otherwise the sound is great. Under Device Manager / Sound, Video and game controllers I have 4 things: High Definition Audio Device High Definition Audio Device NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) Sound Blaster Recon3Di

maybe i missed it but do you run from the back panel or the mobo header to case and what kind of headphones? I run SPDIF and I wish it had the ability to output surround sound thats not already encoded but it doesn't crackle. I've run headphones from the mobo header and haven't noticed anything yet.

I haven't had any issues since moving the headset USB connection to the front case USBs. Not exactly sure what the issue maybe but some have pointed to a possibly ground issue with the I/O cover.
