Hi. I have a Gigabyte M52LT-D3. Old school, I know. But I want to put Windows 8.1 on my PC since a Windows reinstall is needed and why not upgrade from Windows 7. But after I checked Gygabyte's page about my motherboard, I found there were no drivers for Windows 8.1. I have Advanced System Care and I use its Driver Booster utility to install all of the needed drivers for my motherboard when I reinstall Windows 7. But I don't know if Windows 7 drivers are compatible with Windows 8.1.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 8.1 should work for an older system but Windows 10 should also work. I've got Windows 10 working on a very old laptop at my home.

Unless you're feeling brave and want to install the Windows 10 preview version of course.

    • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
    • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
    • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Hey guys! I'd like to report that the OS is working great! The boot times are faster, Start Menu 8 makes Windows 8.1 worth using ( I find it a bit faster than Windows 7 ) and the drivers are all working well. :D
Though, today a huge batch of updates just installed. About 77 if I remember correctly. Problem is, I had 25Gb free on my C: drive before the update. After the updated I had 15.7Gb free. I did a cleanup with Advanced SystemCare and a manual cleanup by right clicking on my C: drive, properties and using the built-in Disk Cleanup option. But now I still have only 18.7Gb free. A lot of updates for Office, Skype and Windows installed. Where are the backup folders so I can manually delete them? Because the Microsoft Office folder form Program Files only uses up 1.26Gb.
I have a problem with updating my software. I like keeping everything up to date. But now I regret it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Windows Update Cleanup should be an option in Disk Cleanup. After a reboot, it should free up space after doing that operation. If you delete system restore data, that can sometimes free up a lot of space too.

Other than that, I would not recommend manually deleting system files. If you manually delete stuff, you may soon find yourself needing to reinstalk Windows due to weird issues and corruption.

Windows will work fine on that hardware.
