hi , ihave a nf980-g65 msi mother board with 2 evga 260 gtx cards in sli with dvi to hdmi cable coming of first card to 47 in lcd.i would like to use hdmi of mother board direct for sound pass thru,and power savings when not gaming. what is correct way to hook up i would guess enable hybrid sli in bios and hook up hdmi to tvif i am wrong can some what correct me.what about power savings i know you lose like 5% for it to pass thru onboard i read somewhere online how do you enable it.

Hybrid SLI Also in response to the PowerXpress technology from AMD, a configuration of similar concept named "Hybrid SLI" was announced on January 7, 2008. The setup consists of an IGP as well as a GPU on MXM module. The IGP would assist the GPU to boost performance when the laptop is plugged to a power socket while the MXM module would be shut down when the laptop was unplugged from power socket to lower overall graphics power consumption. [9][10] Hybrid SLI is also available on desktop Motherboards and PCs with PCI-E discrete video cards. nVidia claims that twice the performance can be achieved with a Hybrid SLI capable IGP motherboard and a GeForce 8400 GS video card. [11][12] On November 5, 2008 in Microsoft’s Guidelines for Graphics in Windows 7 document, Microsoft stated that Windows 7 will not offer native support for hybrid graphics systems. Microsoft added the reason for the decision saying that hybrid graphics systems ‘can be unstable and provide a poor user experience,’ and that it would ‘strongly discourage system manufacturers from shipping such systems.’ Microsoft also added that ‘such systems require a reboot to switch between GPUs.’ [13] On desktop systems, the motherboard chipsets nForce 720a, 730a, 750a SLI and 780a SLI and the motherboard GPUs GeForce 8100, 8200, 8300 and 9300 support Hybrid SLI (GeForce Boost and HybridPower). The GPUs GeForce 8400 GS and 8500 GT support GeForce Boost, the GPUs 9800 GT, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+ 9800 GX2, GTX 260 and GTX 280 support HybridPower. [14] Current Linux support of this feature is not complete.

So, someone like myself who is using the same board, and using an e-GeForce 8800 GTS (so same series graphics card as the on board MB graphics chip) would not be able to utilize the hybrid SLI feature in ANY way?

Just an update for you guys, I replaced the stock Hybrid fan with a Corsair -
Air Series SP120 PWM High Performance Edition High Static Pressure Fan
I'm very happy with the noise levels. Basically the fan is silent. Temp's obviously are higher. 50 celsius now whilst playing gta v, compared to 40 c before.
Also my fan header is now plugged in to my motherboard, as I don't have an adapter.
I'm happy enough now with my setup.
Idle noise is still higher than pre hybrid, due to the pump, but gaming noise is extremely impressive. Temp's still better than my air cooled 80c at about 1500mhz.

i had hybrid sli on my first build it was a enforce 730i/9300 from evga. hybrid sli was supported in windows vista and after that no support for 7 and windows 8 . i can run windows 7 with my old board but not 8 amazing its still running .

waoh, post from 2010 about hybrid SLI. Note, Hybrid SLI isn't SLI with the GTX 980 hybrid cooler, it's about mixing/combining Nvidia intergrated graphics with a card, two very different topics ( one of which I don't that is even relevant anymore, as Nvidia doesn't make chipsets anymore)

Was there really a need to update a 5 year old thread? And how does this relate to Hybrid SLI?
