I bought and built my computer but the top 120mm fans are running at 100% capacity. How do I fix this?

I'm using
i7-4790k
Noctua L9i
MSI H07I AC (I think this might be the problem)
2x8 Corsair Vengeance 1866
512 GB Samsung 840
512 GB old 5200 rpm 2,5" disk
Not using a graphics card at the moment.

I suspect the motherboard might be the culprit but I am not sure how to solve it.

I connected the fans to the motherboard but it only has 3 pin, I believe I need a 4 pin fan to be able to control the speed of the fans? Despite this, my bios clearly can list my CPU cooler and my 120mm fans - even the RPM. I can control the CPU cooler through a bios setting but the same setting doesn't affect the top fans. There is no need for them to make this noise, the case is ice cold already.

The noise levels are unbearable for any kind of usage. Is there any solution?
If I have to buy new 120mm fans, which ones will fit and are good for this case? (ironically I prefer low noise over performance)

This is easy. The fans that were included are just 3 pin fans, they are not adjustable, they are cheaper and I recommend replacing them. You should have 4 pin fan headers (depending on your motherboard of course) You will need to upgrade to new fans that support "PWM" and have 4 pins. Make sure to also get a 4 pin splitter if you plan on setting them up the same way as the stock fans.

My goals are similar to you and I picked up some coolermaster JetFlo 120mm fans, I cannot recommend them because they use a very non-traditional machine screw that made it more difficult than it should have been to change them out.

    Good luck!

If your budget allows for it, I suggest Noctua NF-S12A PWM fans. They run about $25 each, are the best fans in the noctua lineup for quietness and cooling for case fans, include noise dampening mounts, low noise adapters, 4 pin y-splitter and an extension cable.

I use 2x NF-S12A PWM fans in the top of my hadron air, using 1 y-splitter and 2 low noise adapters (one per fan). Although it makes the case a tiny bit warmer than without them, they're almost impossible to hear.
I also use 1x NF-F12 PWM on my Corsair H60 CPU cooler, which is just more pressure optimized for radiators than the S12 is. Runs a bit louder (not by much though) but does an amazing job at cooling.
