I have the Evga Z87 Stinger motherboard and a Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD.  After I got the motherboard I noticed my SSD was running slower than before (benchmarks went from ~5XXmb/s read/write to half that.  Looking at Intel RST software it reported 3GB/s for my SSD.  I tinkered around, replacing cables, trim, etc and noticed that after Windows boots Intel RST reports 6GB/s and benchmarks are at full speed.  After just a couple minutes, it drops to 3GB/s.  What is this motherboard trying to do and how do I undo it?

Thanks.

I've got the same issue. Thought it was due to the 840 EVO, but it looks like I'm not alone.

How do your two have your Bios Settings and what Tool are you using to see that that they are only running "After just a couple minutes, it drops to 3GB/s"
Do both of you have the Current Bios for your Motherboards?
What Port on your Motherboard are you using?
Are you allowing our Drives to Sleep!

I think I fixed my problem.  Initially, Samsung's Magician software was reporting SATA II and SATA III randomly.  Intel's RST software was reporting 3 Gb/s for my 840 EVO and 6 GB/s for my WD spin drive.  So, in the BIOS, I switched SATA mode from SATA 3 back to Default.  Intel RST reported that it was 6Gb/s and Samsung's Magician software benchmark is now double the speed at 549 MB/s read and 526 MB write.  Hopefully, it sticks.

    Who's on First?
Are you mixing SATA II and SATA III Drives?

Yeah, it stepped back down to SATA II 3 Gb/s.  Drives are set to never sleep, too.

My WD drive isn't having the issue...it's just the 840 EVO.  I unplugged the WD drive and booted up.  The 840 EVO reported as SATA III and benchmarked fine.  However, after about 30 minutes, I checked again and it was back at SATA II speeds.  Loaded up the Intel RST app and it said it was 3 Gb/s.

    What has Samsung told you?
I assume you have opened a Support Call with them.
Is your SSD Drives Firmware up to date?

I haven't posted a support ticket. However, I swapped the SATA ports for the hard drives and everything seems to be working fine now. SATA 0: WD drive, SATA 1: 840 Evo (boot)
