Hi All,

This is a problem I've had for years now, but it's become more urgent since I got a new graphics card (Geforce GTX 760) and I believe an outdated BIOS is causing issues - I get no video as soon as I install the driver, but it works with no driver/ in safe mode.

Anyhow, I've downloaded. But when I try to update the BIOS (whether from within Windows, or from in DOS via a bootable flash drive, I have no luck. The error I typically get is "Error: Bios Does Not Support ME Ignition Firmware update", but if I try to flash from the .exe file instead of the .bat, I think I get something to the effect of "Analysis of C:\[...]\1E655A74.4M failed". I've tried with multiple downloads of the bios zip, and with older versions of the bios update, with no luck. In my troubleshooting research I came across a site somewhere saying this message is indicative that it's the wrong ROM for my board, but I confirmed that I do indeed have an E655, using CPU-Z.

Anyone have any clue? Thanks in advance.

The BIOS file is for Windows versions from XP to 7 but there are two bat files, one for 64 bit and another for 32 bit.  Make sure that you are on a compatible OS and are running the right file.

Do also make sure that you are on an admin account but the folders contents/main folder, should be extracted to the desktop as well.

I'm on Win7 64 bit, and I'm running the afuwin64.bat file. I'm on an admin account and tried dumping the files directly onto my desktop, but same result - "Bios Does Not Support ME Ignition Firmware update".

Can you also see if there is a lock on the BIOs to prevent updates? Once unlocked then you can update.

rjohnson, where would I check that? Is it a setting somewhere in the BIOS?

I know this is a really old board, thanks for trying to help me out with it, guys.

Check in the BIOS and see if the ME Subsystem setting are disabled. If they are, you'll need to enable them.

Tried to enable the ME Subsystem in the BIOS and most of the options were grayed out - can't figure out how to enable them. Couldn't find anything in any of the various menus about locking/unlocking the BIOS.

Aren't Erik and Jaeson (and yourself?) EVGA tech support?

I would start a Submit Ticket, maybe they can provide a new Bios Chip.

I've apparently submitted a tech support ticket on this issue back in 2011 (forgot about it) and they wanted me to RMA the board to them - not an ideal solution and I doubt they even have P55 boards laying around to ship me a replacement at this point.

You never know, after all 2011 is 4 years ago.

If there's no other suggestions to try, I think rather than rip out the old motherboard, ship it out, wait for a new one to come in the mail, and install that all in the hopes that it was a hardware issue the whole time, I will sell off this vid card and buy another one of my old card and stick that in since I know it's compatible. I only upgraded because my old card got fried in a thunderstorm, I was happy with its performance.

Or it would be a great time to upgrade.

Yeah, the thought definitely crossed my mind, though I very foolishly decided to upgrade my processor just a few months ago with a top of the line i5 off of eBay for 40 bucks, haha. I'm pretty happy with my CPU power now and would feel a bit silly getting a new mobo and processor for another 300 bucks or whatever just to be able to use this vid card. I'm buying a new car this month so I'm pinching my pennies a bit...
