Hello, i'm posting here in regards of my GTX 980 SC. I have the clocking set to stock settings, I have clean installed the latest driver, 347.09 with the Guru3d Installer, and tried the 344.16 driver. Other things I have done include checking "Prefer maximum performance" in "Power Managament Mode."

Everytime I launch one of the following games, my screen goes black and my computer locks up and must be cold booted. The exact thing happens with ALL these games:
World of Warcraft
Starcraft II
Heroes of the Storm
Dota 2
Archeage
Defense Grid 2
The Evil Within
Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Forest
Path of Exile

It also turns my screen black and forced into a restart on Heaven Benchmark and Valley Benchmark. I have tried slightly downclocking my GPU to -105, but this hasn't helped.
Here is my hardware:
8gb DDR 3 RAM
Intel i7-2600 @ 3.4 GHz
750W Corsair Power Supply
GTX 980 SC

Also noteworthy, my previous GTX 660 worked with ALL these games flawlessly.

My question is, is there magically solution i'm overlooking? Or should I just return this graphics card and go to a more reliable source, like AMD?

Thanks in advance for your help.

EDIT using Samsung 28" u28d590d monitor with displayport 1.2

I don't think there's anything you're currently overlooking. Sorry to hear about 980 SC problems friend. I know having problems with a $600 GPU can be BEYOND frustrating. Unfortunately this stuff happens sometimes regardless of price and brand, AMD folks have had issues with their cards too. It could be drivers but I wouldn't even bother to start troubleshooting until I called EVGA. This is whats so nice about this company. 24/7 FREE Tech Support for their products. Just call this number, 888.881.3842 , and I'm sure they'll take care of you. Here's to hoping that its an easy fix, and you won't have to RMA your card, so you can get right back to gaming like a boss. Good luck! Keep us posted!

If the computer is turning off like someone pulled the power plug the PSU is the issue. If it's just locking up and black screening and you have to manually reset the machine try doing THIS to see if it helps with the locking up and black screen.

Hello, I called EVGA technical support and they offered for me to just get a RMA. Sajin, I tried everything you posted in the link, and after turning my voltage and fan to maximum power, my games would launch and play after loading for about 2 seconds, or until I click, then my screen would go back, and I would see a balloon saying the Driver has crashed, and I have to restart my PC to get it going again. Games I tested this with are: Wolftenstein: The New Order, Defense Grid 2, Dota 2, and Archeage.

At this point I wish to know would I have better luck returning my GPU and getting the same GTX 980 and not having issues, or just swapping to AMD?

It's really up to you at this point. I would RMA it then sell it and switch to AMD if you're looking to go back with them.

The majority of the cards are probably fine, but it's just some that have an issue. So, if you want to get another 980 than there probably wouldn't be an issue. You have to remember the people that have a working card don't post on here, but all the people with the bad cards do. This kind of makes you see a lot of bad and not a lot good when it's really the other way around.

Even if you do get a bad card; it's EVGA and their RMA department is great.
