my system specs are AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 sc 16 GB Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bitcorsair 650w my gtx980 sc have constant crash during gaming only. I was playing eso when my screen turn gray, i quickly alt tab and saw graphic driver crash and have successfully recovered. My bios is up to date, setted the timing and voltage for my ram. I am running on max performance, during nividia driver installation i disable all option except for geforce experience and graphic driver. When it crashed i uninstall my graphic driver using driver sweeper and reinstalled and the issue was gone for 1 week and it came back. The temp during gaming for gpu is max 50c. I also followed all the instruction on nividia page regarding driver crash. My current nividia driver is 350.12. Also my card is running at stock speed, i did not change any clock.

Download EVGA Precision and downclock the memory and core clock by 100mhz each. After you do this, play your game and see if it crashes. If this works (which it probably will), then you will need to RMA the card as the stock clock is unstable (no fix). If it doesn't work then we can try something else, but I guarantee this is the issue. It sounds sketchy and it's a long story, but it's your problem I guarantee. To set up an RMA (if this works), just call EVGA support for assistance or if you already have a pretty good idea of how to set one up then just do it online here.

I would also recommend testing the cards individually at stock. If testing has been successful so far, it may just be one of the cards, not likely both.

I too have been suffering these crashes when running the card at stock clocks. :( This is the error I get when playing Elite: Dangerous - I'll try running the card - 100 MHz or so and see if there's any improvement.

It seems if you suffer these crashes, usually an RMA will fix them if downclocking works. It's odd that EVGA doesn't have another solution other than an RMA to my knowledge or downclocking. Of course, downclocking ruins your performance and makes your expensive high end card the same as a budget low end card. Then again, an RMA is a hassle for the consumer and an externality for EVGA.

Contact EVGA tech support. Your card should work and be stable at the default factory clocks. An RMA might be needed.

I too have the same problem playing Elite: Dangerous. When I come out of warp, going to another system, the screen turns black and the pop-up message tells me that the drivers/card crashed. Very annoying.
