Hello,
I've recently purchased an EVGA Z97 FTW motherboard along with an Intel i5 CPU (The certain i5 is yet to be determined) that I'm going to use to replace my AMD FM2 motherboard along with my A10-6800k CPU. After consulting with a good friend of mine who happens to work at a local computer repair shop (The same place I take my PC in the event I cant do something myself), he told me that making that drastic of a change to my system would most likely result in having to wipe my entire hard-drive and reinstall windows 8.1. While the reformatting part wouldn't be a problem due to my secondary hard-drive, I've been using the OEM version of Windows 8 that came with my original ASUS CM1745 PC (That I've been building off of ever since I first got it). While I'm certainly not afraid to go out and buy my own physical copy of Windows 8/8.1, they're quite expensive (about $90 each) and I'd prefer to keep the costs as low as they can be so I can focus my money of better components. I've also looked up alternatives to reinstalling Windows such as creating a backup CD or USB and using a software such as ProduKey v1.70 to find and enter the product key, or even just searching for it in the BIOS settings (I'll follow up and see if the BIOS method works since I haven't tried it yet). Regardless of the solution, I appreciate the help and advice and I look forward to your responses.
