Only because it was hyped by Paul Walker's death, trust noway it would have done anywhere near that much if he had lived
The Fast/Furious series is entertaining but it's not a blockbuster type of thing

Maybe you're right but it certainly will help Universal's pocket book as they need a good hit. Jurassic World is also coming soon from Universal and that should also rake in some badly needed cash.

Not all movie companies are successful. Universal hasn't had a really big top hit for quite a while. In fact the last major blockbuster for Universal was Despicable Me 2 which made just short of 1 billion. Before that film only Jurassic Park (in 1993) made over a billion for them.

Universal makes enough much money. Look at Universal Studios (their themepark, and the ticket sales) and their funding, let alone Universal's Movie studio.

OK but you can't rob Peter to pay Paul. If you have a business like Universal all of your assets need to make cash. You can't make money off your theme park and use those funds to make up losses for films that aren't doing as well as they should.

In the picture, the transporter is still there, so I am sure Riddick wants revenge before the tooth fairy gets killed.
