I am wanting to purchase this case for an upcoming build, but i am wanting to use a bluray drive instead of a dvd drive. is there a slim-slot loading bluray drive that will work with this case. if there is what model number should i look for

You want a blu-ray burner or dvd burner / blu-ray reader combo drive?

As stated, I use the Panasonic UJ265 BluRay Burner. Its a quad layer burner so it will burn 128GB blurays, dvds, and cds, basically anything.

I bought mine used off eBay for 20$. It came out of a Lenovo laptop. It didn't have a bezel or the actual eject button on the drive. I can imagine they removed it for the model laptop to prevent accidental presses against the case, and probably because the keyboard has an assigned key. But from pictures I have looked at, they are identical to the one EVGA sells, just BluRay. I have a Fn key eject, and you can always right click eject. Average 50$ savings convinced me it was a good deal. There is one on auction right now @ 11$ with 2 days left.

The sony Optiarc BC-5650H fits perfect. any part number for the all black connector cable that comes with the dvd drive

Does the Hadron's eject button work with this drive? Or do you simply mean it will fit in the Hadron?

Oh yes, and sweetly so too.
Ugh, just realized there's two questions there ... yes, the drive's eject button aligns with that on the Hadron case and a click on that case button ejects the drive's contents.

its nice that the sony Optiarc BC-5650H does fit the hadron case, but this drive is no longer in production. After looking on reputable sites like ebay, amazon and the like I can say for certain that this drive is also no longer for sale. SO once again we are left with the question is there a Blu-ray drive (reader or burner) that can easily be purchased that will fit this case perfectly, eject button placement and all.

There's also a BC-5850H.  I haven't been able to find either in stock anywhere except for a few vendors on eBay based in China.

yeah if its not readily available, IE: the ability to purchase it from ebay based in the us or amazon its not worth buying. I just wish EVGA did a little more research on what drives would be able to fit this case perfectly and made such drives available other than the dvd drive

There is one person selling these drives on eBay, based in China. One seller is good enough to buy from for me.

really it shouldnt be this hard to find a compatible blu-ray drive here in the US. Hell i could purchase any other ITX pc case that utilizes any slim optical drives that are still in production and readily available, buy it and place it in the case and be ready to rock and roll. this is the only case i have seen that makes it a pain in the ass to find compatible optical drives that work perfectly with it. im just saying that apparently optical drives were an after thought when it came to this cases development

You could have bought one on ebay from china and it probably would have been here by now. Items are usually here in about two weeks, sometimes faster than getting something from Jersey to me in Texas. If you are dead set on having the eject button, then maybe you should buy that other case you were talking about. If you don't care about the button, you can always software eject or assign a keyboard function key. They sell a DVD burner that is made for the case, so saying it was an afterthought is a bit untrue, they just don't provide Bluray that you want.

If you go to ebay and type: "sony 5650H"
I bought the first one listed.  Its from China, but looks like it will do the job, just gotta have patience.  It comes without the eject button and faceplate, he has at least ten more.

Good luck guys!

Will the BC-5500H-V eject button align properly and open when pushed like the BC-5650H does?

Any plans from EVGA to sell a Blu-Ray + DVDRW drive for the Hadron?

It's hard to see from the pics in Amazon, but it seems that the "Sumsung Toshiba TS-TB23L" (lol, Sumsung) might have the eject button in the right place for the Hadron, $60 as of now.

Actually you can use just about any slim slot-load optical drive, so long as it has an ejection button located in the same spot as the Panasonic.

Great news, folks:

I just bought a BD-5850H, and I can confirm that it fits perfectly inside my Hadron Air.

Bought this from an eBay seller based in China, but the seller has 100% positive feedback.

These are just my personal opinions about the drive:
  • Pros: probably the best blu-ray slot drive
  • Cons: pricey, no eject button, and warranty may not be provided (check with your vendor)

Any idea when the drive will come back in stock?

They seem to be available in Canada and the UK, but the United States is wiped out everywhere.

Re:DVDRW Drive for EVGA Hadron - Available Now 2015/04/26 06:41:09 (permalink)
Product page is missing from US site, not just saying "unavailable" or similar. Still only DVD, but it's better than nothing.

Are there any reasonably priced Blu-ray writers with a compatible eject button available right now? Please limit to specific model number(s) on Amazon, Newegg, and the like. I don't want to rely on software eject, and $100 for a slim drive is just silly. I don't care if it's slow, as long as it's quiet and doesn't have a habit of fouling my discs.

Why is it so difficult to find just one suitable optical drive? Or, what idiot at EVGA decided to use a non-standard position for the eject button, and what idiot gave it the OK? Universal standards are a good thing.

Unrelated griping: Trapping +# inside a text editor is seriously obnoxious. As is forcing counter-intuitive Windows shortcuts. +Shift+Z is blocked, +Y (which makes no sense) works as expected. Cutting text also strips leading/trailing whitespace. Basically, it's forcing OSX to behave like Windows, which is bull****.

Maybe they want to use it as a HTPC? What's a good slim Blu Ray drive that's not an import?
