I noticed today that theSkyNet POGS project has a post about new data that is being tested via their beta site.

https://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/forum_thread.php?id=563#3972

If you would like to help test the new data, here is the site to connect to via BOINC:

http://pogsbeta.theskynet.org/pogsbeta

I setup a team there for us as well.

Be aware that if points matter to you, that they will not be retained nor exported to the stats sites. If you are all for the science, then please proceed. :)

This is what Kevin (ICRAR) says :

We have the beta test server running. If people are willing to help test stuff (without receiving credit - Sam is working on the
new credit model) connect to http://pogsbeta.theskynet.org/pogsbeta It has 17 filter bands (GALEX, Pan-STARRS, SDSS, WISE,
Herschel, Spizter) and new wrappers and new Android. I need to make sure the amount of disk I allow is enough for the new
models. Unfortunately the server will be shutdown once the testing is complete; so you won't get any credits for helping (sorry),
but you will get my thanks.

I will help with some cores, although I won't get any BOINC point.
My prime target is to help science.

Not really much science in the Beta Side, but once the Beta is done it should be moved over to the non-Beta side and then the collection of task will then be for the science. Is this not true as well, the Beta is for testing that the Task works without issues.

bcavnaugh, that is exactly what they are doing. Testing the apps. Quite honestly they could have just ran it at the main site and just had a check box to run BETA work. However, I don't think they fully understand the different ways you can set up the server. I have made the suggestion to them many of times. They also plan on running a separate server for SourceFinder when it comes out which is what started me bringing it up to them in the first place. Since only one of them actually work on the project "full time", it really is a struggle to get things done with them.

That is a good point regarding the checkbox to run Beta work. Einstein@Home has been running their new apps this way recently and it has worked out well. This would be simpler for the community compared to asking volunteers to join to another project site for testing purposes.

And to be fair, POEM does that crap too. They set up an entirely different test server when they really don't need to.

Other projects like YoYo and SETI have a BETA server but I think it is also used for testing server upgrades. Einstein and Rosetta have Alpha projects which makes sense.

LHC on the otherhand should really use one server for them all too, but they just keep making more....

There are 132 new galaxies of data available now on the primary site.
