Hello,

My fan is going very fast even though the temperature is only 35 degrees C. It's rather loud but not horrible. Another thing is that GPU-Z isn't detecting the fan % or speed. My computer isn't doing anything right now but the fan is still going after gaming. Any help?

Edit: For a split second GPU-Z detected the fan speed randomly. Is it only checking the fan that doesn't spin when idle/not needed? Also, just to clarify, only one fan is spinning nonstop.

Edit: It finally stopped.

Edit: It goes into overdrive shortly after I start playing anything. It went even faster just this last time. Any help would really be appreciated.

    Anyone?

Are you using more than one program that can monitor or change the fan speed at the same time? This includes any motherboard utilities as well.

    EVGA X99 FTWK / i7 6850K @ 4.5ghz / RTX 3080Ti FTW Ultra / 32GB Corsair LPX 3600mhz / Samsung 850Pro 256GB / Be Quiet BN516 Straight Power 12-1000w 80 Plus Platinum / Window 10 Pro

Get "MSI Afterburner" and try whether you can adjust the fan speed with it. Are BOTH fans spinning? I heard that on occasion one fan could be broken..which means only one runs and then very fast. I would check that. Also...you can check the connection with the fan header on the card..maybe it's loose?

Edit: A BIOS update/flash with the original, possibly updated BIOS for your card could possibly also fix fan issues. I heard some people doing this and this solved the problem.

    Yes.

Are you able to adjust the fan speed after reboot using msi afterburner?

Fan speed will only goto 0 when the card is throttling so it may be something is stopping your card from it. But the program goes away when your PC restarts.

I would like to know the outcome of this... just bought EVGA GeForce 970 SC acx 2.0
its fine when i first turn on pc if I start to game, less than 30 seconds in the fans turn on Full blast like a jet engine and remain that way until i shutdown pc if I just restart the fan normally wont turn off all the way in time so it'll be like 30% (going by ear) i've installed
    GPU-z
    MSI Afterburn
    EVGA PrecisionX 16
*none run at sametime* all of which when fan is on claim fan Speed at 0rpm

    other info
    Alienware x51 R2
    Intel i7-4770 @ 3.40GHz
    16GB Ram
    Windows 8.1

The fans are spinning but the fan speed is 0 in GPUZ...

    Never heard that one before...

    But everything else works okay?

yes also if i edit fan% or fan curve when fans are not on they'll start up to max rpm (again going by ear)
I've tried a lot in the past couple of hours
    upgrading from 670 to 970
i completely uninstalled the driver and nvidia program so many times
first id uninstall msi afterburn...Precision...GPU-z the nvidia programs and drivers
restart only install nvidia drivers and the fans still wont cut off until i shutdown and turn back on

    *Edit
yeah games play fine but ive got a jet engine coming out the back of my pc in game and idle after a game need to turn volume up over twice as load to ear the game

    *Edit
Also every time i re-install the drivers i do check the box for clean install

    *Edit yet again
I wonder if only one fan is spinning and all the programs are confused cause of that, i can see if they both are its tight but sounds like its only spinning on the rear fan... not a heat issue gpu temp hasnt been over 55c yet turns on HIGH at around 45c

Its a 2974-KR right? I don't really know what would cause the fans not to idle or yet alone not report their rpm. You can open a ticket with EVGA for the issue online or call EVGA 24/7. To open a ticket just go to http://www.evga.com/support/ticket/support.aspx and open a ticket with your card. Make sure to fill in your computer specs and they can get back to you with a fix. It could be as simple as a BIOS update for your card or maybe they want you to return the card.

    I hope this helps :)

just opened a ticket... it is the 2974-KR and i updated to the 1.1 Bios for this forum didnt fix nor help
is the a way to run a diagnostic to the gpu for each fan im thinking it could be one fan isnt spinning the jet engine seems to be the fan near outputs... again impossible to see if they are

    *Edit
Good News!! sort of.... took it back out and inspected it again but this time i noticed some very minor marks on furthest away fan and power wires
well seem the 2tb drive was pushing it up into the fan so removed my 2nd drive now wires have room also better air flow... lose 2tb still have 1tb sdd rigged up by disc drive and i now have RPMs and all programs read it and the fans work like intended.... on a side note it still hasn't gotten as loud as it was b4
