No worries AMD president said that AMD has 1 billion in reserve err... 820M...

I really hope the 300 series helps AMD out, but with rumors that the 380 is a 290 makes me worried.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions. Rumours are just that, rumours.

I was also expecting a similar outcome in the quarter.

Many people with good reason want to know how they still work.
    That's constant loss years.
PhysX and stronger NVIDIA graphic cards destroy them completely,
same as Intel low power consumption and excellent performance per single core.
You can't do much except to expect mercy from customers if you can't offer at the end of year more fps than competition.

When are Nvidia cards destroying AMD cards? The 290x and 295x2 are still holding their own and the 390x will most likely be the best card for awhile.
Both companies offer the same product, one is just cheaper than the other.

NVIDIA cards didn't destroy Radeons, that's not dog fights, NVIDIA PhysX and performance completely destroy AMD profit and business.
Or maybe we are blind and AMD earn every month 100.000.000...
That's simply idea, vision, and management... Same as Antec could be more popular than CORSAIR, they have longer tradition but people in CORSAIR had better idea and now are far from Antec. ATI was on market before NVIDIA, but people in NVIDIA always know what to do and customers recognize that. You can't lie 50% of customers with story R9-295X is strongest graphic card when they know that TITAN X is strongest graphic card and second is GTX980 and third GTX780Ti and TITAN Black and forth R9-290X but she is hotter and need more power than all 3 stronger cards.
And that's not worse thing, worse thing is fact that mid chip is 4 years on market. Second best AMD chip is Fermi competitor.

Nvdia's PhysX is a joke, it's barely used and when it is it's not to the full extent it should be

I agree NVIDIA PhysX is only shadow compare to idea and what can become if company continue to develop...but that would be end of competition if they can't launch own version... We enjoy in PhysX and to be honest it's one big plus on NVIDIA sides. They will continue to use PhysX on one in every four/five games and AMD will continue to struggle in such games, that's it...It's nice to see PhysX Effects on Maximum with 60fps. Better to support than not. You will see NVIDIA have some more idea for improvement visual quality.
You don't need to love or hate NVIDIA, every objective person will say that TITAN X is art of human hands in IT. Same as TITAN Black.
It's only question what you choose, NVIDIA make better graphic chips. They are winner because faster can offer better graphic performance and their hardware will use less power and produce less heat for that. But product is more complete in nicer package and with good marketing.
Numbers say everything, NVIDIA probably work with full capacity to produce enough TITAN X.
You think NASA and many University are stupid, for them hype mean nothing, their experts only ask best and that's NVIDIA.

    2013 Q2: Revenue $1.16B
    2013 Q3: Revenue $1.46B (profit $0.30B) (AMD 200 series released)
    2013 Q4: Revenue $1.59B (profit $0.13B) (Nvidia 780ti released)
    2014 Q1: Revenue $1.40B (loss $0.19B)
    2014 Q2: Revenue $1.44B (profit $0.04B)
    2014 Q3: Revenue $1.43B (loss $0.01B)
    2014 Q4: Revenue $1.24B (loss $0.19B) (Nvidia 900 series released)
    2015 Q1: Revenue $1.03B (loss $0.21B)

290x only brought AMD profits for 2 quarters (2013 Q3, Q4), and then AMD spent more than the 290x was bringing in. I wish I could see how much they were spending and where/why. They are staying afloat at around 1B revenue. They will release 2015 Q2 with the 300 series and bolster their pockets to stay afloat longer. I am not optimistic that this is the card that will save AMD, but it is the card that will enable them to grow I think.

    That's nothing compare to NVIDIA.
If this is true AMD last profit get because miners and contracts for consoles, but because people there buy hardware for 5-7 years that can't help them and now people stop to buy 4-20 AMD cards for mining. In next period I predict AMD will hold 1/3 i 1/4 desktop market depend of their products before they show 10% stronger chip than NVIDIA in same time with similar heat and power consumption. When that happen they can hold up to 40% of dekstop market for graphic cards, for CPU they need 4790K competitor, But not 4-5 years after Intel and not in application optimized for 100 cores. They need at least 80% faster single core and power consumption 50% less. When they full fill that than AMD again become part of games. Until that moment AMD will hold 20-25% market and 50% of owners AMD cards will be second hand buyers, people who bought AMD from someone who buy laptop or NVIDIA for cheaper price because can't afford more than 200-250$ for graphic. AMD can't offer nothing for people who will pay 700-800$.
