Hello everyone, after 3 years i stepped over from my AUS GTX 690 4gb vram, to the EVGA GTX TITAN X 12gb vram SC.

Today it arived in the mail, and after installing it , i noticed something strange,

When i look in DX DIAG, it show i only have 4095mb Vram, while i should have 12,288 MB

When i loaded up CPU-Z , and went to the graphics tab, it also showed i only have 4095mb vram.

Does this mean i have a faulty card and instead of 12gb vram they only placed 4gb vram on it ?

The Nvidia Control Panel does show i have the 12gb vram, however, i am more worried that certain games, 64bit , would think i only have 4gb, instead of 12. wich makes stepping over from an gtx 690 with 4gb, not much sense stepping over to a new card with also just 4gb vram...

I hope there is an Fix for this !!!

Greetings

My system specs are:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme
Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.20Ghz ( not overclocked )
G.Skill RipjawsZ 32GB DDR3-2400 CL10 quad kit

EDIT 1:

I just did the Unigine Valley Benchmark, that came on the disc with the box, after finishing the Extreme HD benchmark, it also shows i only have 4095mb vram.... ??

Should have nothing to worry about. Dxdiag has Always been buggy. Mine shows the same thing but in games i can use 6 to 7gb of ram and no issues. Its just reading it wrong.

They don't typically make the mistake of forgetting 8gb of VRAM, as you would easily see over half of the VRAM modules missing off the back of the card. It is probably just a reporting error. Use GPU-Z, with no other loitering tools open, and see if it reports usage under heavy loads above 4095.

32GB is plenty of RAM, I cant explain why its showing as 4GB VRAM.  What I want you try though it downloading GPU-Z from TechPowerUp and use the main screen to varify the "Memory Size" is listed at 4GB, if it is then go to the "Sensors" tab and start graphing the memory usage.  Once you have that setup download OOCT and run the GPU benchmark with "Error Check" at 2000mb which will use 3-4GB of VRAM and also launch a game that you would consider to use large amounts of vram and attempt to get the card to use 5-10GB of VRAM.  If you can do that than I would say you are good, if you cant get it over its reported 4GB, than RMA the card.

That was smart jump, from GTX690 to TITAN X.

I did the same jump and its a massive improvment, my 690 still runs strong but cant keep up with the new games on 2560x1440 with higher to ultra settings. Im extremely happy with the purchase.  Im running 80 fps on GTA 5 everything highest..MSAA x4. 690 wouldn't of been able to do that

Hang on, you're getting 80FPS in GTA 5 with all settings maxed out (even in the advanced graphics tab) running on a 1440p monitor with a Titan X??? I'm sorry but the Titan X is struggling with GTA 5 in maintaining 60fps in 1080p maxed out with dips to 20-FPS north of the map. Am I missing something?

Well, your performance shouldn't be held to his as i'm sure your CPU, MoBo and RAM are different.

For maximum performance (using a Titan X) having an upper level motherboard such as an X99 with DDR4 memory and the best processor is going to make a difference compared to an older processor/motherboard/ram

Im running 3930k @ 4.6ghz  16gb 1866 dominator ram  sabertooth x79 board and yep everything is running amazing. I have zero tears/lag/dips or stuttering. Running on the VP2770 IPS 2560x1440.

I do keep vsync on because of the no dipping because i see no reason to run at the higher fps when its running fine at 60 but for testing i turn it off.

It's reccomended to have 32GB of RAM for the 12GB of VRAM.

Runs fine with 16, no reason to get 32, its been tested everywhere  and its not needed. In fact the official site for Nvidia has now changed it to 8gb Min 16 recommended.

added link so you can see.   look at requirements.

Just saying, i have a 5930k@4.3ghz with 16gb ddr4-3000 and the game on a mx100 ssd and maxed out msaa 2x, north of the map (forest etc) i dip in the 30-35. 90+ fps in city. This is in 1440p on a asus rog swift. I use +\- 4.2vram.

it could be a driver issue, should be better with 350.12WHQL reinstalled properly.

Mine shows 4096gb vram in dxdiag but show 12gb vram in nvidia cpanel AND gpuz. My guess is that windows doesn't lime 12gb vram. Bad coding ;)? Let's wait for win10/dx12 how this plays out. Also i'd like to point out that i am able to use more than 4gb vram. Gta 4.2gb vram, hardline unplayed at ultra 200% scaling but with maxed msaa it uses 5gb vram i think. So all in all, it's fair to say windows doesn't like it

I'm running i7 4790k with an ASUS ROG Maximus VII Formula Z97 motherboard and 16GB Ripjaws series X 2133/9 and have seen other systems with similar specs running the game same as I am with below 60FPS @ 1080p with a Titan X. Something isn't right here.

Can you elaborate what difference an X99 board is going to make with the Titan X compared to a Z97 board in terms of how many fps you get in games?

Easy. Ddr4 speeds, hexacore/octo core m.2 4x and 40 pcie lanes = multi gpu setups more powerful. In terms of fps hard to say. Depends on each setup.

I thought X99/DDR4 had no significant impact in terms of gaming?

Well it HAS an impact, now how much ? Can't say! Depends on every system. I'd like to think that gta can be though on memory streaming since it's open world so ddr4-3000mhz would certainly help if you have a mid range ssd/gfx. Also extra cores always help. In this case i see my fifth and sixth are at 30% each so it might not be straight out of the box FPS but i'm pretty suce it helps for smoothness etc. call that an impact ? That's your call.

Recently got my Z97 board, so personally for me, don't think I need to upgrade lol. Got a little excited there.

No you probably dont need an upgrade. Games these days are just starting to use 4cores. So optimization between 4 and 6 is flimsy.

No, but the chipset of your MoBo will make a large diffrience on the memory bandwith of the PCI lane to the CPU.  Once you get the bandwith, its all about the CPU being able to deal with it and that's why you need a good MoBo and CPU to get maximum performance out of your GPU.  It literally has nothing to do with the game, just the PCI lanes and controllers and the CPU's ability to process it effectively.   How much of a difference it makes is probably 1-20% depending on the hardware your comparing.

1080p is like idling with a Titan X. There isn't much for it to think about. Try turning DSR to 4k or something and see if that will help you get better fps. Make the card work, since it is aimed at 4k.

Also, there is kboost. When old games don't get the most of a gpu, use kboost and it makes the card stay taxed so that you get better fps. Same scenario I am guessing. These cards want to work rather than get tickled by 1080 resolutions.

Since a GTX 960 can push 80 fps as shown in many videos on the 1080 scale, then your card isn't getting any work.

I had the same 4 gigs showing up in DXDIAG etc issue. I re-installed windows and it corrected itself. I think the issue is related to installing your Titan X after an older card has been in the system. If you want to get rid of the issue just re-install.

I'm using a single Titan X here (turned off SLI) at 1080p and I'm getting 120+ with everything maxed out in GTA V. In fact the single card performance is better than SLI. 4K monitor is coming this week by the way.

Pretty sure some of this has to do with 32-bit apps, like Heaven, so they only report the 4GB of VRAM.  For DXdiag can you all try running the 64-bit version of DXdiag?  There's a button to run 64-bit at the bottom of the 32-bit unicode client.  Can't check for myself bc I'm at work atm.

As for RAM, and speeds, I do remember in GTA4 it was one of the few games where RAM bandwidth made a pretty huge difference in loading times.  I've got no complaints with 32GB as the game uses ~11GB and makes 28GB available to the graphics card with a system managed 32GB page file on a dedicated SSD.  Game runs sooo smoothly on just a single Titan X at 1440p even if the frames bounce as low as 40ish FPS and as high as 90ish driving around.  Not everything maxed out but close and with 2xMSAA.

3930 with 1866Mhz Ram... X79, while its still fantastic... newer gen hardware performs better than gen 2 cycles ago. Titan X isn't the be all end all... its best used with current gen hardware or from a cycle ago. Variances of course will differ but Haswell Architecture brought with it Sweet spot ram of 2133Mhz.

To many variables cause it can also come down to what is GTA V installed on? SSD or Mechanical? Latest Bio's Installed? Latest chipset installed, latest drivers? properly set in bio's for settings such as GPU's running in Gen 3 or is it set to Auto?
