Hey guys and gals,
I was just curious if anyone heard if there will be a 2015 Pentathlon next month?

SETI Pentathlon or BOINC Pentathlon hosted by SETI.Germany?  The BOINC Pentathlon was in May last year so it's a little early yet.

Malcreed are you new to BOINC and thinking about joining Team Crunching@EVGA
Are you running SETI under a Different User Name?
I started up this week back on SETI that is.
Did you have a link to the 2015 Pentathlon?

I think they were in March or April the year before last. However, I have not seen any announcement on it this year just yet....

Seems we will have our Pentathlon this year too.
After some digging in Seti's calendar, I found the Pentatlon not only mentioned, but also schedueled.
Seems the Pentathlon 2015 is about to go fro 5th to 19th of May.

Just saw team registrations are now open until April 27th.

Links to the main page and team registration page.  Each team can vote for 1 GPU and 3 CPU projects from these possible choices.

Any interest in a contest?  And what projects?

    I like the idea.

I always like running the space based projects. On the GPU side, Einstein is still my favorite project followed by Seti and Milkyway. Milkyway is one of the very few projects that does benefit most from GPUs that are strong in FP64 such as some of the AMD cards like the 7970 and Hawaii GPUs, and NVIDIA Titan. If our team has some of these types of GPUs, we could have a strong presence with this project.

On the CPU side, DENIS is a new project and is gradually ramping up work unit production each day. Today, the project had more tasks available than I have seen in previous days but I am not sure that this project would be able to qualify at this stage since the project still does run out of work daily. There are quite a few possibilities to consider on the CPU side.

Another consideration for signing up is the rise in electric costs during summer months. I know in my area, that May is the first month where electric cost per kWh goes up significantly. This is usually when I start scaling back a bit on the crunching side. Perhaps other people on our team are impacted by higher summer electric rates as well.

    Good points lr.
I think we should sign up and organize our team vote asap.
I'm leaning more towards medical projects this year and it's a good time to re-familiarize ourselves with each others current preferences.

We get to choose one of the following GPU projects
    • Asteroids@home
    • Einstein@Home
    • GPUGRID
    • MilkyWay@home
    • Moo! Wrapper
    • PrimeGrid
    • SETI@home
We also get to choose 3 CPU projects NOT  in this list (theSkyNet POGS, Collatz Conjecture, Rosetta@home, Enigma@Home, POEM@HOME)

So I also like Einstein or MilkyWay for GPU, and then lean towards medical for CPU...say World Community Grid and MalariaControl.  I'm open to any other CPU project for the last slot.

Lately I've been CPU crunching WCG, Malaria Control, Rosetta and DENIS. I agree DENIS is too new to consider and Rosetta is disqualified so I'll start looking into others that have work.

As for GPU, I'd lean toward any of the top 4 in pc's list.

I've been doing WCG lately as well, and I wouldn't mind doing some ATLAS or Yoyo for the other cpu projects.
As for the gpu project, my vote go's towards Milkyway since it's where my 7950's would be the most helpful for the team.

For GPU I vote for GPU Grid. Hopefully they will have work when the time comes.

CPU can be a bit tricky. Last year one of the CPU projects, Poem, ran out of work due to people trying to build up bunkers. So we need projects with lots of work and that can generate more work quickly. With that said I would lean towards Malaria Control, Prime Grid, and WCG. Those seem to be the most reliable for having work and never seem to run out.

Oh, is it already that time of the year again?
I´ll stay away from suggesting or voting on a project, as I´way out on what has ample supply of work.

Just noticed as well: The mighty [H]orde is gonna paticipate this year as well.
Hope you guys can stir it up a little bit there at the top Coleslaw!

I think that will highly depend on project selection Barbarossa. Most of [H] tend to not project hop. And things in the forums have been a bit quiet outside a few typically active forum members. We shall see.

Yah, it takes quite the effort to get a top placement overall, not to mention tactics.
Takes a while to figure it out, and I´m aware on your stand on holding back completed tasks ( aka bunkering).
However, I can see that you can get a top placement on 1 or 2 disciplines with your rather high " ground noise" from those not activly participating, but crunching that project anyway+  the extra effort from those switching
And that should have effects on those three or four teams running for the overall victory.

For us, I hope we finally can leave Rechenkraft behind us.

Sorry guys I forgot it was me that signed us up last year!  I've been busy/not on the forums that much recently but planetclown was nice enough to remind me.
I'll whip up a thread to vote on the projects we want to vote for (make sense?!) and then sign us up before the 27th.
