Amazon and Newegg have it for $239.99 now...I got Amazon to refund me $60, since I paid $299.99 a few weeks ago ...not sure how Newegg works.

does the Creative Sound Core3D support dolby digital and dts?  I don't see the option in the software and it looks like the one that came with the actual sound card I have except it's missing that tab and i'd rather not have to hook up the sound card.

It's real hard to come by built-in sound that supports Dolby Digital Live.  They decided to increase their licensing fees to absurd amounts.  So much that manufactures couldn't compete with other boards than didn't support Dolby Digital Live because of the fees increasing manufacturing costs anywhere from $80-$100 more.

I wouldn't take this as fact, but it's what I have discovered researching why i can't seem to find one and why Realtek stopped supporting it.

Yeah, I don't blame EVGA for not making it an option. The board's sound it quite good and I really don't want to take up a slot with a physical card so i'll probably just stick with it rather than put the sound card in, even though the sound with the card is a little bit better.

Love this board! I was a little salty when it cam EATX but I invested more into my case than anything so I just pushed the button. Never looked back.

Only thing I want and miss is software for fan control, seeing temps, etc., rather than only being able to use the bios.

Couldn't find this in the terribly thin manual but for the extra pci 6 pin power connector on the bottom left of the board, does it help to plug in power to it?  I believe in the bios you have to use the 24 pin or the 6 pin, does it help to use the 6 pin over the 24 pin?

I have two 980 Kingpin's in SLI.

You have to use the 24 pin connector. The extra 6 pin connector is for using multiple video cards in SLI. Gives a little extra power for the cards.

Not necessarily, I think I would use it for two high end cards that use two or more eight pin connectors. It would give them that extra kick!

For say the 980 kingpin that has 2 x 8 pin and one 6 pin connector does everyone of those have to have it's own plug into the psu or can i use 8 pin to 8 pin for one and for the other 8 pin and the 6 pin can i use one 8 pin from the psu on a cable that has an 8 pin and 6 pin at the end of it?  I guess I'm asking can I use the 8 pin (to the psu) to 8 pin + 6 pin (other end of this cable) connector...can i use both the plugs at the end of that cable or just one?  Hope that makes sense...it's kinda wordy.  lol

Yes you can use dual 8 pin and one 6 pin. That's the same thing as using the dual 8 pin adapters that come with the card.

Re: new Z97 Classified 2015/04/16 07:02:21 (permalink)
Thanks Cpt, it's a case where I had it hooked up using that cable but got to thinking about it and wanted to check to make sure an 8 pin pushes out the power needed when having an 8 and 6 pin on the other end.  Thanks for all the help!

And my 1300 watt EVGA psu only has 6 gpu sockets and if I didn't use that splitting cable the two 980 Kingpins would use all 6 of them and I want to plug power into the extra 6 pin on the board.

The system requirements of the software seem to suggest that the dts connect pack does not support onboard audio. A Sound Blaster X-Fi audio device seems to be required... that being said, it would be interesting to give it a shot! There is a spdif connector on the back of the mobo, so maybe?
