I have already request an rma, but before I give up i want the opinion of the forum, the problem is this (sorry my english): Configuration: Motherboard: Sr-2 Cpu: Xeon E5645 Psu: Antec 1200W Ram: HMT151R7TFR4C-H9D7 x 8 Case: Xigmatek Elysium HD: Crucial M4 128GB GPU: Quadro 4000 At the first power on the motherboards works well, 0 problem in windows, all functional (debug led show AA) BUT when i power off and after power on the pc, the pc doesn't work, the motherboard look death, also the debug led was off. After some time (15 minutes usually, sometimes more but never less) i can power on again the pc, and it works Video (sorry for quality, the "tic" is normal, a fault fan): When this problem occurs, the LED of hard disk (and reset on the motherboard) remains on, the LED of power on remains off I'm no expert in electronics but from what I know all electrical power disappears (even by capacitors) within 60 seconds, and without battery should not circular current, but then why? why if I do not wait at least 15 minutes will not turn on? always ! I've tried: 1) Reset cmos 2) Remove battery 3) try 3 different bios with switch 4) try another psu 5) try one cpu at a time with the jumper 6) try 1 block of ram at a time 6) try different gpu 7) try without hard disk and 0 sata 8) try change cpu socket 9) try out of the case 10) try with and without 6 pin cpu connector 11) is not a problem of temperature (35° idle and 50° full) 12) something I forget for sure I really have no idea what it may be, does not see the connection with this fact the 15 minutes, you have any advice for me? I'm really near to rma but I find it absurd that when you turn on after tot minutes it works perfectly !

It happens to me too, I unplug the power from the wall socket, then I wait some seconds and plug it again and then the SR2 boots ok. The PC motherboards don't power off completely from the ATX times (199x), there is a small current always, you need to physically disconnect the power to discharge all the components. This is because the USB can have current even with some motherboards powered off, wake up on lan, keyboard or mouse event...., suspend.....

"the pc doesn't work, the motherboard look death, also the debug led was off." 4-5 times happen to me as well. First time was freaking up but seems to be property sometimes comes along with other pranks due to buggy bios. Usually recover after staying without power and cmos battery over night :) There are more mystic involved with this board not explainable with any experiences I have over 20 years with other boards :) Sometimes I wish it never recover from any strange state it can enter :D

Thanks for reply, i will try ! But now i have already ask evga for guest rma but they won't accept I bought the motherboard on ebay, new motherboard, never use, but probably a old stock fund, and the vendor does not have the invoice.. I thought for guest rma did not need invoice and the guarantee was 3 years ( now they're telling me that the warranty is only 2 years and without an invoice is not valid. Can someone confirm ?

wawacco Thanks for reply, i will try ! Did you get you board post? Mine did this trick bit differently yesterday again. With the difference that 2 yellow LEDs near power socket will show up when powering board after reboot- everything else including debug LED and PCI-E LEDs are off. And this happened when I was rising one voltage bit in bios. No post after 30min, no post after 3 hours. Today it post with first try. I really hate this board- out of nothing big you are disabled to use it for hours. Totally unreliable.

Tried but without result, the card boot after hours exactly the same way :( Yes, this problem is absurd, but the worst thing is evga making me problems for the guest warranty ..

Ok I'm having the same bug here, all leds are on but with the exception of the green power led. the thing is that i usually unplug it to and plug it again and it starts but sometimes it needs some hours to rest. we need a solution and a clear answer form EVGA about how to solve this, this was supposed to be a high performance mobo, not a extra big piece of junk!.

This is "normal" on the SR-2. I see it happen fairly regularly on both of the ones I have access to. It's a long standing bug in either the BIOS/firmware or hardware itself. The only way to make it power up again is to unplug from the wall and wait for all the caps to drain. Sadly, as you so eloquently put it, the SR-2 is an extra big, extra expensive piece of junk designed by the marketing department, and developed and built by the lowest bidder.

Hi, I also have a SR-2 with 2x5620 and i had the same problem. The problem started 2months ago. Im really not sure if it is the caps or something else but there is a possible workaround for you to boot it. I have a brand new seasonic 1200W-X series. The system worked perfectly. But then.... 4 months after... and from nothing i had the same problem. I could power the system... it would work for several days... but if i power it off.. it wouldnt boot anymore. I had to wait... hours or days to boot it again. I've removed the 24 ATX pins and did the 3+4 pin trick to test the power supply. In fact the problem was the power suplly caps. The power supply would only boot my Laing Pump in the 3rd try. So... you can do this test.. or do the following: - in your power suplly... change the button from 0 to 1, 1 to 0, and 0 to 1 3 times !! This will fill in your caps with power Boot SR-2 by pressing power. Blue and yeallow leds will show up. If the system doesnt boot do the switch trick from 1 back to 0 and 0 back to 1 really fast.! It should boot. Let me know

It's not a PSU, it's a motherboard problem. It sometimes locks itself up on shutdown and you have to discharge the caps to make it forget everything properly before it will power up again. This procedure works for me on both of my SR-2s that exhibit the same problem with different PSUs: 1) Unplug from wall. 2) Hold power button until you get yellow+blue LEDs on the motherboard 3) Wait for the LEDs to go out 4) Repeat from 2) until LEDs no longer light up. 5) Wait 30 seconds 6) Reconnect power 7) Hold power button down for up to 10 seconds, it'll power up.

Has anyone seen an issue like this ? Here are the symptoms: 1) Blue LED on motherboard is lit indicating there is power 2) Green LED is off indicating the the motherboard is not powered on. 3) Two yellow LEDs are both off indicating memory is not functional yet State 1: If I hit the power button on the front of the case, the blue LED, green LED, and both yellow LEDs all light up for a brief moment (usually less than a second) and everything looks like it is stating to power up. After about a second, the system powers down again (I think this is normal behavior) State 2: Then about 4 seconds later the system starts to power up again on its own. The same LEDs light again (Blue, Green, and two Yellows) and the system stays powered on from 2 to 6 seconds and then powers off again. To get it to this sequence again, I need to unplug it from the wall outlet and then hit the power button on the front of the case again. In any event, it will never stayed powered on for more than about 6 seconds. The solution seems to be that at the very beginning of State 2, if I hold the power button in on the front of the case and continue to hold it without letting go, the system successfully boots and I can go into the BIOS setup. I can see the two CPUs (2 5570) and 48GB of RAM. Everything appears to look normal. I was able to successfully program BIOS 2 to the latest version (A58) using this method. Once I let go of the power button, the system turns off. Here are the things I have tried: 1) Reset cmos 2) Remove and replace cmos battery 3) Reprogrammed BIOS 2 to the latest version A58 4) try another psu (it was the exact same model as the previous psu (PC Power and Cooling 1200), exhibited same behavior 5) try one cpu at a time with the jumper 6) try 1 block of ram at a time 7) try with and without 6 pin cpu connector I guess I could replace the toogle switch with a hard ON/OFF switch on the front of the case, but this is clearly not the way to solve this issue long term. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks! I found the issue. When I wired the case switches, the NO (Normally Open) and NC (Normally Closed) looked almost identical. Had it wired for NC instead of NO. My eyesight is just not what it used to be! :)

I had the exact same thing happen with me but using a different motherboard. The root cause was a new internal USB powered hub. I had the hub connected to a 4-pin molex for power and the standard USB connections on the motherboard. Now here's the kicker. The USB hub was flawed and it was taking the standby power from the USB connector (+5 rail I believe), and recirculating it back through the molex connector, back to the power supply, supplying low voltage power to all +5 rail components of the motherboard. So, even though the mobo was off there was still partial power being delivered to certain components. Not sure if you are suffering from the same thing but wanted to throw that one out. Good luck. -Randman76
