stiltz85...You can complain all you want, i am not going to further contribute to whatever crazy point you are trying to make...

Wow! I think, folks, everything is clear here.

Let's see if "VRM heatsink" argument will evolve into a something coherent. Not holding my breath though...

bcavnaughAnother High Jacked Thread.

I'll make a wild assumption that "High Jacked" means "hijacked". Now, under that assumption, let's take a look at a quote from the original post

zerocool101Also, why do the x99's not have the nice 1 tab Dimms like the x79 mobo's had? These 2 tab Dimms I can't get the ram out with a video card in the top slot

And then let's take a look at the focal point of our recent conversation: 1 tab DIMM slots vs 2 tab DIMM slots. So, among other things, this thread is originally about 1 tab DIMM slots vs 2 tab DIMM slots and we are talking about 1 tab DIMM slots vs 2 tab DIMM slots. And let me repeat it one more time: the thread is about 1 tab DIMM slots vs 2 tab DIMM slots and we are talking about 1 tab DIMM slots vs 2 tab DIMM slots.

There's a certain similarity there, wouldn't you agree... No?

Well, I have to admit that judging by some responses I received so far some posters here apparently... er... have closer relationship with the word "DIMM" than what can be explained by mere memory slots. And considering that this is Saturday, some people might be... er... "jacked" pretty "high" in the recreational sense of the term. And for them the logic here might not be sufficiently... er... transparent. For which reason I'll spell it out explicitly: the thread is not only not hijacked, it actually remains precisely on the original topic.

-------------------

For those who still retain the ability to perceive objective technical matters I will reiterate the question: Can anyone name any technical reason that would make 2 tab DIMM slots better that 1 tab DIMM slots?

Jesus, nobody cares. You've obviously hijacked this thread. I don't know if you are just on a wild adventure to show a new forum how big your ego is here or if you just want to try and look as smart as you think you are. Nevertheless, this thread is not about the prescribed topic anymore, it's about you.
Can we just move along back to the topic please, you don't have to belittle every single thought a person has.
If you need to argue for the sake of just doing so, go to reddit. There are plenty of people there that would love to argue about irrelevant things with you.
Otherwise if you would like to contribute without being a total ass, welcome to the EVGA forums.

You are lifting this thread way to high with your jack is what it means.
And Don't forget "rant...but why the crappy I/O shield"

My X99 Classified Motherboards is one of the best motherboards I have.
I have no problems with adding or removing memory with my GPUs installed.
One Clip or Two Clips makes not difference, and I do not stare at my back I/O Panel while I use my computer.
The I/O Panel provided gets the job done and most other motherboards use the same type or style as what EVGA is using.

If you own the X99 Classified Motherboard then speak your peace, if you do not own one then you are trolling or just bashing EVGA's products.
If you bought one and are unhappy it then return it, if you are unhappy with but want to keep it then do so.
Review what you buy before you buy is the best course of action when you are buying a Motherboard from any company.

As for dual latch vs single. The clearance is an issue on these board since pci slot one sits so close to the bottom of the ram. If you are running a single air cooled or even dual air cooled video card, there is no issue, except when the ram covers the latch for the gpu.

If you are watercooling, it is quite the hassle if you build an entire pc and then can't get it to boot and need to start troubleshooting and you can't easily get to the bottom of the ram latch. If it were single side, all you do is unclip the top and remove it. If it is on the bottom, I found that I needed to use something to get in the area where my fingers were too fat. Especially with backplanes in the gpus, which cover the latch even more.

That is the reason and real world use of having single side latches for me. It is one of the reasons I sold the EVGA Motherboards to switch to a brand I have more luck with.

I've noticed Asus doing this with their motherboards too. My Z77 had a nice one that labeled each plug, while their Z97 board was just plain metal. I really wish all of the companies would start doing this:

MSI MEG Z490 ACE | Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master
ASUS TUF RTX 3090 | NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super

The NZXT cases have the lights on the I/O, but the one rain linked it much nicer and would be nice to have if you have to look back there.

That's very nice.  If its patented, I highly doubt we'll be seeing it on other manufacturer boards.

+1 on the dual ram latches,
I prefer the double sided ram latches, no need to be removing ram.
I put mine in, and they have not moved or caused any issues.

If they do It's not hard to remove the GPU.

there is a reason I chose EVGA, it was for the simplistic straight forward reliable product I have used for years.
they have it right,

I do agree the rear I/O sheild is crap, I had to install my board 4 times because of the ****ty weak grounding tabs kept bending wrong.
It's still not perfect, but it works.

Also evga used to have great I/O Sheild here's what my old one looks like. on my X58

I'm looking at my board and with a card in the first slot the clearance is tight but opening the clip is doable. Removing the video card is an option but with water cooling it would be an issue. Air cooled, I see no issue.
My only "complaint" with the board is that all the connectors at the bottom of the card need to be at right angles (CFPA, J17, USB2, front panel connectors).

I've been cooking my 2666 Ripjaws with ~1.4v 24/7 since I got them, good thing there's two latches to keep 'em in there

I'm having the same issue too, where the tabs are a major hassle when it comes to trying to install the mobo where the tabs don't interfere with the plugs in at least some manner. I thought once the x58 came out we evolved beyond these archaic little tabs and the padding would be the future.

There can always be a revision, it's never "what's done is done" when it comes to peripherals. Which is what I hope will come to fruition, is an updated i/o shield. Things like no headphone amp built into the audio circuit, when other manufacturers include that are "done and done". Given that EVGA regularly comes out with cosmetics such as backplates for video cards. I'm sure they can realize what things like proper i/o shields mean to the consumer. So I hope EVGA will at least consider a revision and allow us to purchase them at a later date.

After swapping memory around during testing of my system I can say that you can unlock the bottom tab on the DDR4 slot with a graphics card installed. I have a reference EVGA GTX980 installed.

So, just wondering....going from a x79 Dark to x99 Classy and I hate to rant...but why the crappy I/O shield with the x99 classy? You pay $400 for the top of the line EVGA x99 mobo and you get a crappy I/O shield (stamped and no padding)? Also, why do the x99's not have the nice 1 tab Dimms like the x79 mobo's had? These 2 tab Dimms I can't get the ram out with a video card in the top slot :(

All these little things I see right away opening the box and how could the EVGA Engineers not get this right? Seem's too me EVGA's going cheap now :(

Looks like I'm on my way to board #3, the I/O shield would be nice, shocked they didn't make one an option considering those of us who shelled out $700.00 for each GTX 980 when they came out, I bought 2, then bought backplates... they know we'll buy the options.

I would also like to see EVGA release a "better" I/O shield for the X99 series. The one for my X58 was nice.
