Making contact with a space traveling alien species is just stupid. Forst off we barely get along with ourselves so how the hell are we with aliens? Second if we did and they decide to conquer or wipe us out we wouldn't stand a snowball chance in hell

It is stupid. These wacko scientist keep watching too many Hollywood movies. All they do is come up with some crazy theory out of their rear ends and then tell society its real and you should believe because I am a classified as an "expert".

I should be the one who deserves to talk to aliens. Why am I the chosen one because aliens are not real so we dont ever have to worry about me talking to them.

well there are billions of planets in this galaxy alone. and billions of other galaxies out there. to say there is no other life in the universe would be incredibly short sighted. that being said, the only thing this planet might have that isn't abundant everywhere in the universe is us. so yeah, alien movies where they stop by to harvest our planet for minerals or water is unrealistic. but as far as trying to contact aliens.. I don't think we'll have to tell them where we are.. we've been broadcasting radio and TV signals for the last century, we wouldn't be that hard to find for any race that is traveling through space looking for someone like us.. as long as they're relatively close =P

Any species capable of intergalactic travel would be way beyond us. Time will must likely be irrelevant to them, we be ants compared to them. I like Stephen Hawking theory, they come consume our solar system's resources, consume our sun's energy to create a worm hole to head to another system.

I still don't think that if you were truly a space fairing civilization that travels through interstellar space and survives off gathering resources that you would bother with small rocky planets that are already inhabited. first off the amount of resources that could be gathered here are miniscule compared to even the kuiper belt and oort cloud that surround our solar system. Seems like it would be easier to gather up a handful of the trillions of comets and icy bodies that inhabit those regions then it would be to bother with the tiny little crumb of a rock we call earth. Not to mention the obvious fact those things are probably already pretty much sterile and would pose a much smaller risk of contamination. If you think humans are dangerous, you know very little of microbial life.
 
Think of our solar system and surrounding region as a banquet hall, you walk in and see a veritable smorgasbord of resources, the main course would of course be the oort cloud and kuiper belt with the very large gas giants maybe playing the role of side dish or appetizer. the earth would be a pea that had fallen on the floor compared to the feast that surrounds us. of course you might squash that pea while walking around the table gorging yourself on resources. but you wouldn't want to pick it up and eat it because it's filthy..... we're the filth on the pea and we've been here a lot longer than 5 seconds, so the 5 second rule no longer applies.
