Why would you wait and buy from evga? I bought mine from nvidia....  went perfectly. I have bought stuff from nvidia before (nvidia shield tablet) and had equally no issues.

EVGA has cross shipping and next day replacement options that no one else has on video cards.  I use my computer for work so uptime is important - my desktop and cooling system run 24/7, for example.

Workstation:  12900KF @ 5.2Ghz || MSI Pro-A Z690 DDR4|| EVGA FTW3 3090 1000W || G.Skill 3866 4x8GB || Corsair AX1200i || whole-house loop.
Mining Box: HP Prodesk G1 (Haswell 4590), 3x Gigabyte 3080Ti, AX1500i @ 240V.
LANRig/GuestGamingBox: 9900nonK || Gigabyte Z390 Master || ASUS TUF 3090 650W shunt || Corsair SF600 || CPU+GPU watercooled 280 rad pull only || whole-house loop.
Server Router (Untangle): 8350K @ 4.7Ghz || ASRock Z370 ITX || 2x8GB 3200 || PicoPSU 250W, running on AX1200i || whole-house loop.
Server Compute/Storage: 10850K @ 5.1Ghz || Gigabyte Z490 Ultra || EVGA 3060 || LSI 9280i-24 port || 4TB Samsung 860 Evo, 5x10TB Seagate Enterprise Raid 6, 4x8TB Seagate Archive Backup ||  whole-house loop.

Those darn EVGA bucks that's why :(

By the time a Titan X appears on here that rumored cut-down Gm200 will be upon us, furthering my wait lol.

I will either find a way, or make one.

It's not true that all TITAN X OC excellent.
TPU sample couldn't go more than 110MHz...11%. EVGA last year sell cards with 23% fabric clock, 23% default clock.

That mean if you get such sample even Superclocked BIOS will cause crash.
That's not nice situation if you pay 1000-1200 for card.
Better than invest little more and you have secure 130MHz and maybe even possibility to install Hydro Copper BIOS with exactly 150MHz.
More than that most gamers will not need and it's not good for board without serious custom loop.
If you ask me more than 50% people will get cards with max OC 100-110MHz... as always with premium chips.
1500MHz is only dream and option on table if you have serious luck.
If someone can force TITAN X to work on same improvement as fabric clock of 780Ti KP that card would be about 60-65% stronger than reference 980.

No tax from Evga! A frugal shopper, such as myself, demands to save that $80 bucks! :D

Ericc191, I had a hard time eating the 80 bucks for tax as well, but every time I play Dragon Age Inquisition on my 2 780 Classified at 4K it is unplayable due to the 3GB on those cards. I have played most of the game at 2K resolutions. (actually, I played most of the game only using one card because of the crap SLI job on that game that resulted in texture flickering and white fog problems). Looking forward to getting away from SLI and never making that mistake again.

On the Anandtech forum pretty much everyone who bought a Titan X managed to hit 1400MHz on the stock cooler. Some of ours throttle due to higher temps but some can maintain it if they have good case ventilation and lots of case fans.

Fair enough, tax and EVGA bux. Hey i love EVGA, and i would have bought the titans from EVGA if it was an option.

Did anyone try and register their titan (s) on nvidia's site yet? They still have no drop down for the card to choose.

With no touching of my cards, no fans blowing on them and in SLI config, they boost to around 1250 mhz. I imagine going the extra distance wouldn't be that hard at all.

I'm waiting for evga as with the sc'ed model, i know i'm getting a certain boost in clock speed OOTB.

It's a 1K card so i can wait and not regret it. (and i play in only 1080p on my bigsceeen and Rift's DK2 is only 1080p/75mhz, so i
can hold out a bit for the evga sc'ed to get back in stock. Plus i'm ok with the original Titan still after having it nearly 2yrs)

Those Titan-x's you have are from NVidia's site, correct? And they boost that high? That's a 25% boost over the stock clock..wow.

I really want to buy this new Titan X. I just can't justify it because of the lack of quality games to play nowadays. Sorry. I really want to buy it, it is just the other piece of the pie is not doing as well as this hardware.

Finally got my 2 acetal-nickel EK blocks.  Nickel backplates coming Wed.  I'm going to attempt actively watercooling the backplate just for fun + break new ground.  Clearance between the top card and ram sticks is problematic but not a big deal.  Slightly bigger deal is the tight bends that are going to be required to connect the waterblock to the backplate block.

I will second that. I am very interested how this will benefit cooling. Actually trying instead of just a theory is always worth more then a thousand words.

I am also patiently waiting for my EVGA Titan X Hydro Copper - I would never buy from any other brand... I just saved 750$ because buying from EVGA... why? -> Since my old GTX Titan died a dramatic death (R33 inductor burned), and I used a custom BIOS (removing the TDP limit) as well as I have opened the card by myself... they still send me a full replacement within a few days, which I just sold now on ebay for 750 bucks to get the new Titan X - so never regret buying from EVGA... they still have the best service by far...

Kind regards,
LD

Re: GTX TITAN X 2015/03/31 05:17:42 (permalink)
This is the 1st card that has me seriously considering an upgrade from my GTX780 ..

I always buy the best single card at the time of purchase and keep it for a few years and then move on.

my only conundrum is my 780 is showing its struggles with 2560 x 1440 and games later this year and going to beat on it pretty hard...Pascal looks VERY promising but i doubt we will see consumer cards until summer or fall 2016 for those. The 980Ti is put off until after summer this year and i might wait to see what that brings to the table.

BUT

AMd and their new card the 390x seems like it could be a beast and if priced right Titan x costs would have to come down in price. I might consider the 390x if its performance is comparable to the titanx and if AMD has made a card that doesnt require a nuclear generator to run it. ..

definitely not easy deciding..

and with Dx12 coming with windows 10 and that could use all 16 threads of my 5960x..OMG!! its a good year to be a pc gamer :)

I also have a GTX 780 and it is struggling in many games at my resolution(3440x1440). I'm going to buy the Titan X SC (once it's in stock) as my upgrade.

It'll be like what 2x faster than the 780? That should provide smooth gameplay. It'll be even better for you with your resolution.

Don't think I can wait until the 980Ti/390X comes out.

That's why I bought directly from Nvidia. Didn't want to but if I kept waiting for EVGA to stock the card I might as well wait for the "980ti" as it's rumored.

I will either find a way, or make one.

With no touching of my cards, no fans blowing on them and in SLI config, they boost to around 1250 mhz. I imagine going the extra distance wouldn't be that hard at all.

Those Titan-x's you have are from NVidia's site, correct? And they boost that high? That's a 25% boost over the stock clock..wow.

Yeah they do, but it varies. It is not always that high, sometimes it is only 100 mhz boost, sometimes its 200 mhz. It seems to depend on the game i am playing.

What was the shelf life of the original Titan? Were they ever readily available? Do you think the Titan X will have a long shelf life? I'm guessing 6 months at most for new cards.

CPU: 4770k 3.8
RAM: 32 Gigs 2400
EVGA 1300 watts
TITAN X
Asus Maximus Formula IV

You shouldn't compare the lifespan of the original Titan to the Titan X because the GM200 core is fully unlocked, unlike that of the original Titan. The Titan Black and Titan X are much more alike considering they're both fully unlocked cores. The Titan Black was able to equal the 980 is most benchmarks and had an additional 50% of VRAM as well as much higher memory bandwidth. The 980Ti will probably have slightly higher clocks but it'll certainly have less VRAM, probably half. It will be cheaper though and will be freely customisable by Nvidia's AIBs which means custom PCBs, cooling, etc. I would imagine the Titan X will pretty much match the 980Ti but will offer far more VRAM at the cost of having only a reference model to choose from and obviously a much higher price tag. Meaning the Titan X should have a ~12-16 month lifespan until Pascal arrives in the second half of 2016 which will obviously be a few months longer than the 980Ti considering it won't be released until Q3. If you have a limited budget though the 980Ti is the clear choice in my opinion.

If there are no Titan X's in stock, I can't buy any. Even if I wanted to. Market lacks good graphics cards.

Just woke up and getting ready for work.. I've refreshed evga.com and newegg.com almost ten times already. *facepalm*

That's why I bought directly from Nvidia. Didn't want to but if I kept waiting for EVGA to stock the card I might as well wait for the "980ti" as it's rumored.

Not sure what's going on with EVGA production but if I waited for the 980 HC version I'd still be waiting after months it seems.  Not going to hold my breath for Titan X HC either, I've learned my lesson.  I'm seeing posts that non liquid cooled Titan X just can't survive the throttling monster with air cooling especially in SLI.  The only option at the moment is Titan X SC + EK waterblock for me and I don't feel like doing that this time around.
