EVGA just show two NEW PSU models. 550W and 650W 80 Plus Gold with 5 years Warranty and VERY affordable price.
Incredible thing is because both models support Eco Mode with switch.

    You are right.
Now is whole line full with premium platforms.
Usually manufacturer pay less attention on PSU under 750W and that is visible with not full modular models or connectors look cheaper and weaker. Here connectors and Eco Mode switch give impression of some more expensive PSU than usually. If someone want to use only one GTX970 and little case this models are enough, both of them. CORSAIR no such quality models under 750W.
They have only HX650 as good small PSU but cost 140$ and It's Semi not Full modular as EVGA 650/550 GS. Seasonic 550 G cost same but again it's not full modular and no Eco Switch or Hybrid Switch.

I'm not sure is it possible at all to find so good option
    1. Full Modular 2. Gold 3. 550W 4. Eco Mode Switch (Fan On/Off) 5. 90$ or everything same in 650W for 100$.

Both models have enough Amps on 12V Rail 550W (45A), 650W (54) even for TITAN X and TITAN Z.
Only TITAN Z need 700W minimum.

Corsair has the RM series starting with 450W and going up to 1000W and sells really good.
all of them are fully modular, GOLD certified, 5 year warranty and direct competition to the EVGA GS series.
as the GS is much more newer I see them at least a step or more over the RM series.
last but not least GS series prices are way better than Corsair's but not enough away from the G2 series.

by the way have you looked at the new sleeved cable set prices? 50% increase in EU shop, you should have bought the white ones.

Yes but CORSAIR RM Series is not so quality as Seasonic Gold.
I think CWT build lower class of RM Series.
RM 550W is 110$ and RM 650W is 120$, that's more expensive than EVGA.

If you look better over net instead RM650 customers could buy EVGA 750 G2, and we can't compare them at all.
    Actually Newegg sell 750 G2 for 113$, that's 5$ more than CORSAIR RM550...
You should be serious outsider to choose RM550 over 750G2 or RM650 or RM750 or even RM850.

that's right but on the other hand in EU shop 750G2 costs just 6€ more than the 650W GS which is 4€ more than the 750W G1.
so I ask myself who is going to buy the 650W GS and why? I would always go with the 750W G2.

750 G2 is best but they will gone from market soon maybe.
And we will see reviews but I think 650 GS should be better platform than 750 G1.
If Seasonic say 650W that's 660 without problem.

I don't think so, the G2 came out last year, I think EVGA is going to provide both series in parallel.
the GS series can not replace the G2 as it is right now, with this prices it can't sell better than the G2 either.
something must be done to push it really hard and make it a good choice, the prices must be rearranged, imo.

I see now 550 GS and 650 GS come with black flat ribbon cables...OK.
But I think than EVGA should offer and 24 pin same. Better than all ribbon or all normal.
Maybe they could think about that in future.
Because people will use such small PSU for small case, they are ideal because it's not low power at all.
They have strong 12V rail and enough Amps for graphic cards as TITAN X. But in small cases people will easier to install 24pin ribbon than normal.
I talk about really little cases, and 550/650 GS are cool option for them because small, cute, cubic case.
24pin ribbon can fit in 5cm space.

Keep those semi-passive power supplies coming, EVGA! I love quiet gaming systems.

this is cool. i just put back my NEX 750B because i think my AX760 is in the crapper right now and i wanted to confirm that it was the psu before i pay shipping for an RMA. i've never heard the fan on that corsair kick on, but at idle the fan in the NEX is the loudest thing by far - the system is otherwise silent from where i sit. it's not bad, but i still prefer the silence of the AX760. i'll probably RMA the corsair and sell it and find something new, these new ones might be in the running :)

If you RMA CORSAIR and sell new unit you can buy 750 G2.
But CORSAIR AX760 is good Platinum PSU, no doubt in that.
For me is AX760 better than AX760i but people say it's not, they pay for less accurate software than 20$ voltmeter, CapXon caps and not so good case build rather than Seasonic platform. Seasonic insist on 100% Japanese caps but people say AX760i is better.
But they are expensive and I would never never pay AXi platforms after everything what I read and what customers get.
Even if I know that tools will give them best score on planet.

More than 200$ for 760W is madness. Better to pay 1KW unit P2 than 760/860W with software.
    I mean you can't read 760i and 860 without 100$+ for Link.
I decide my every PSU in life will be about 1KW, because than you don't need to think about fan speed, fan manufacturer, fan profile...
Anyway your PSU is silent and cold. Even if RIG need 700 I will install 1KW+.
People sometimes easy pay 30-40$ more if inside is good San Ace fan, but when you need to pay 30-40$ more for high wattage amd 300-400W space and fanless operation than it's harder somehow, usually think We don't need so strong.

I have a technical support question, do you guys think you could give one of your snappy correct answers?

I plugged in some case fans to a SATA/Perf on my 650GS (which is a very nice unit by the way, looks to be high quality judging from the cables and the fit-finish of the unit).

The brochure packed with the 650GS could explain what the hell 'Eco' is or does maybe? That would be good.

Anyway the case fans don't spin up despite being connected to a SATA/Perf slot.

As you can tell.. I'm a total newbie so.. help?

    Re: EVGA 550 GS/650 GS - 80 Plus Gold 2015/04/21 15:32:05 (permalink)
Eco Mode is option where fan will not work if PSU usage is low, maybe up to 40-50% but will start automatically if PSU cross in higher load.
This is special useful for people who leave computers enabled over night and people who have stronger PSU than really need.
Usually no matter how much Watt space owner of PSU have on some models fan will spin even if PSU is cold and no real need for that.
That only cause noise and shorter life of fan and when fan die good PSU need to be replaced or fan and on that way customer lose warranty.
More and more people choose to buy 300-400W stronger PSU than really need and than even under higher load of their computers Fan stay off because that is still not enough to PSU start to spin fan. Off course Eco Mode can be disabled and fan will work constant under any load and depend on situation he will spin slower of faster.
