I just purchased the GTX 980 ftw edition off newegg 2 weeks ago to replace the r9 295x2 I had to return. I am getting a crash to a black screen with buzzing coming from the speakers; this is occurring during heroes of the storm and wow...I played smite, secret world and diablo fine without the crash and ran benchmarks such as heaven and valley. My temperature of my cpu and gpu are good. Is there anything I can do to stop it from crashing it runs great when it doesn't black screen or do I have no choice but to RMA?

It's a driver crash/issue causing a bluescreen (no driver = black), had the same issue with my GTX 460 on CoH2. It's a black screen because the drivers crashed.

I'm not really aware of anyone knows how to fix it... Or at least no one knew for me.

You could try updating your BIOS and RMA'ing the card if all else fails. Otherwise, you could call EVGA and see if they figured out anything since I contacted them last regarding the issue.

But like I said, it's a driver issue that effects some users and I'm unaware of any solution (I never found one).

I gave this a try tonight. I'm going to test it for a week or two. I can never be sure when the Black Screen happens so I'll need to play a lot of WOW next week.
I download a program called Display Driver Uninstaller and ran it in safe mode to remove the driver CLEAN. Then I installed the original driver that came with the card (344.60). I'll test this out first. Then if no Black Screen, I'll update the driver and see what happens next.

I'd say don't waste your time and just rma it.  It seems that folks that purchased from Newegg has had problems.  The FTW I purchased from Newegg back on March 13th had the same issues, but it was continuous.  I had it all of maybe 1 day and could not operate my comptuer.  I rma'd with EVGA the next day and got a much better card. Don't go back to Newegg or you may end up with a similar card and issue, my theory is they have old stock with the old BIOS from the card release date, which Nvidia acknowledge is the problem child.  Again, save your sanity.

Note:  One thing I forgot to mention.  When I installed the new card it did crash.  When that happens, my instinct tells me to go to the Nvidia control panel to check the settings.  One thing I notice was that PhysX was set to the CPU, so I changed that to the 980 and did not have any more issues.  I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but based on my minimal understanding of PhysX, you don't want the CPU doing that work.  Just something to think about.

Thanks Methodical2. PhysX was already set to GPU.

    Here's where I'm at...
It's been about a week with the conditions that I had mentioned.
DDU to uninstall drivers. Install 344.60 driver.
I turned Kboost on in Precision X and checked the 12v rail in BIOS. It's reporting +12.091v
Not only did it crash in WOW, but BF4 as well.
I think I'll RMA the card as suggested and see what happens.

Sure RMA it if you still have it try using only headphones not speakers or visa versa

This really is not a solution and is no help for the OP.
It makes no difference if the card comes form Newegg, Amazon, or EVGA's Web Site.
Best Buy is a little different as far as their EVGA Graphics Cards.

promac you should create your Own Thread for the issue you are having, you have a different Motherboard.

    OP phoenix45,

    phoenix45,

More than 90% of card issues are end users and old hardware.
Going from an AMD to a NVDIA also causes problems.
Download and store the current NVIDIA Driver on your Local Hard Drive.
Before you removed your AMD Graphics Card did you remove ALL the AMD Drivers and AMD Software from your computer?
Restart your Computer and allow your OS to install the Standard VGA Graphics Card Driver.
Update your Motherboard's Bios, current version is 2.80 7/23/2013
Reset your Bios back to the Default or Optimized Settings.
Shut Down and remove your Power Cable from your Computer, let sit for 3 to 5 minutes *Per AMD.
    Remove the AMD Graphics Card.
Install the EVGA GTX 980 FTW Edition Graphics Card into the Slot next to the CPU.
Plug in your Power Cable and turn on your Computer.
Allow your computer to settle down and if you are asked to restart your computer Please restart your computer.
After 4 or 5 minutes Restart Your Computer One More Time. Do Not Allow Windows Update to install the Drivers.
    OK Driver Install Time;
Disable or turn off your Virus Software.
Right Click on the Driver File that you Downloaded and Select "Run as administrator"
Click on the Green "Agree and Continue" Button
    Click Custom (Advanced)
    Click the Green Next Button
Un-Check ALL but "Graphics Driver" and "PhysX System Software"
    Check "Perform a clean installation"
    Click the Green Next Button.
    Click Restart Button once completed.
