Never heard of the store chain. Must be one reason why they're closing.
Biggest electronis chain in Canada. Parent company is Best Buy. Future Shop was more popular than Best Buy here but I saw the writing on the wall when years ago Best Buy stores started opening up 1 block away from Future Shop stores, some even closer....some sharing the same parking lot. They carry 99% the same products at identical prices. Sales were often staggered though between the chains. Kind of sad as Future Shop had a Canadian origin and identity.
In the end it was just a business consolidation that made sense. 66 stores are closing and another 65 are converting to Best Buy stores. Since they don't have to move product out or liquidate, only signage, the one here in town will only be closed for 6 days before it reopens as a Best Buy. All Future Shop pending orders, warranties, returns, etc. will be handled and honoured by Best Buy stores. Future Shop gift cards will also be accepted at all Best Buy stores.
