How are you seeing the same truck? They are distinctly different. Also you are talking about a box on wheels. There's only so many ways you can make a truck look... it needs a bed which looks the same every time, a cabin, the bubblier the roomier, and a front end where the engine fits.

I can see where your coming from. Yeah its kind of the same truck but not as much. So it looks like Ford copied Chevy now. The sleek front grill and along with stance. It reminds me of my one thread (here) I made about the Chevy copying Fords Raptor truck. You have to admit the copying of the Raptor truck was waaaaaaaaaay more obvious than this. Well I know the old Ford Ranger looked like the a Toyota back in the 2000s Toyota Ford

Yeah... I was about to say both the Ford and Chevy look alot like the Toyota Tacoma... but I digress. I can't blame them for coping the Tacoma, since it's really the only midsize truck that has sold over the past 10 years. Ford and Chevy haven't even been in the game. Welcome to the club American truck makers. Although I would still never buy GM since they should be out of business if not for the theft of billions... And I don't care if they paid the money back, b/c they shouldn't have received it in the first place. I know if my company goes belly up, we just go belly up... no gov't intervention. I will say though... They both look pretty good. It's good to see the American manufacturers stealing again.

The dress is blue. But I digress. They are TRUCKS, hence I could care less about styling. If it's not beat to hell, covered in mud and/or towing something, you shouldn't be driving it. Use a Prius to pick Johnny up from school.

Look at all the Raptor style grills on off road edition trucks, Chevy dodge and toyota all copied it. Chevy Silverado copied the Gen 2 tundra cab and f150 front. It's a equal marketing standard game they are all playing so you don't feel locked into a brand based on looks.

Sorry to break it to you, but a Ford is not a Chevrolet (and thank god although I can say that sometimes Chevrolet doesn't make fleets of crap, just right now I would say that out of the big 3, Ford has the most good vehicles (no, not all cars they make now are great but most are fine)). Basically I would assume that of the two trucks, the Ford is likely engineered a little better and may even cost less money. We have seen this in the S10/Ranger at least, the Ranger cost less not sure about maintenance/longevity on the Chevy since they kinda outpriced a mini truck and made people go over to Nissan to get a long lasting vehicle for a good price. Also you will see that auto manufacturers of a wide variety often have similar styling. There even were Hyundais that resemble Mercedes and likewise of Lexus. You could probably put those cars next to each other and say the same thing. Plus why is there so many car threads on this forum? Did I really step into caranddriver.com? I thought this was a computer hardware manufacturer lol. All of the car threads on here are ridiculous. Come on, even a guy asking for help rebuilding a car when clearly, people on here for the most part won't know what it takes to restore a vehicle.

yeah but your 12v Cummins also get's you better fuel economy, godly amounts of torque, and enough noise to piss off Prius owners! what's better then that!! not to mention how many 12v have gone more than a million miles on the original engine. I agree with OP, sure the US market has always had some similarities in design, but for sure, things are worse than ever. The new Colorado with the diesel is a neat truck though..........

Yeah, the engine and drivetrain in the truck is indestructible. I bought it at 100k km's needed a new fuel pump at 450,000 km's and a new clutch at 475,000 km's. It has the KDP fix, a straight pipe, and the wick turned up a bit on fuel delivery. Finally put a Pacbrake on it 3 years ago and that was the best investment ever.....still haven't needed to do the brakes since whereas before I would only get barely 6 months out of them when driven daily before the pads were down to the rivets. It is in sad shape body wise.....got t-boned once, box had to be replaced when a tree fell on it and crushed the box down to the wheel wells. 6 months ago a run away car smashed into the front end while parked and still haven't gotten that fixed....no time. Oh, and it was stolen years ago and ran into a ditch. Still has a straight frame, drives straight, and will pull 17,000 lbs of hay up a hill without whining.

Man both those trucks look good! Stop being so shallow. Those are some good trucks if you cant afford a full size one that cost over 40K with decent options. But the too bad the Ranger is not coming to the US. The specs of that Ranger are pretty weak for a compact truck to be honest though. It has a 2.2L DuraTorque TDCI diesel engine with 129HP to 158HP depending on the market you are in. The 2.5L DuraTech gasoline engine makes 164HP

I agree, they both look really nice. The Colorado has gotten excellent reviews. It would be a shame if Ford doesn't bring that truck to the US. Although I did read Ford felt the Ranger was taking away sales from the F-150 in the US market.

lol, im not being shallow man, im totally serious. The last year truck I liked was the 96 Dakota extended cab bodies, I hated when they tried to put the bullnose on everything after that but squished it down....it just looked stupid. Even worse when they put it on a Durango. I liked the dodge bullnose from 94 till about 98. Chevys I hated since 88...all of them. Ford was good till about 92 then they got all round and sloped...chevys too. Love the 79 and 78 ford f100 p/u though and some way older like the 70's k5 blazers. I need a truck to look like a truck .... not a purse carrier, thanx....and behave like one too. :P

two different trucks, completely different shells on each. The reason you are seeing the same truck because its of the same class, also with safety standards. That is why they look the same, also when a model of something sells good what a competitor will also do is make their variant very close. As seen with some of the other post on this thread. Also look at Ford they came out with a more classic style looking mustang in 2005-2009 and 2010 a little different, then 11, 12, and so on. Then look what other auto companies started doing, bringing back that classic nostalgic feel in their sports cars that they had in the 60's and 70's as well. As for the new Colorado comments, your right, its a sweet ride.

By same truck, different grill do you mean that it's an crew cab with a 5.5 foot bed? There are reasons why they're the same. It's a class of pickup truck set to a standard.

Of course peeps its the same truck in referring to it being in the same class of vehicle market. Its a compact truck so all compact trucks are VERY similar with the basic features of size, weight, power, price ect. The point is when people like myself refer to it being the same truck, it is from the design language that the brand(s) uses.

My point is that if you cover over the emblems, there would be nothing that would tell you "that's a Chev" or "that's definitely a Ford". The styles are not definitive anymore. You used to be able to recognize mfgs from a distance. Think of Land rover. Definitive style. Volvo cars. KAMAZ or even the early 80s Toyota trucks. They all have their own style. That all seems to be going away in favor of a universal, predesigned form. Copy and paste.

pretty much this. with all the emissions garbage and economy regs they need to be as aerodynamic as possible which leaves little more than body lines, grill and lights that will be different.
