I got the Gateway FX6000-01e up & going . Installed a munchkin 60gb boot ssd & fresh install W7 x64 . The highest temp I got so far was 61 C when playing BL2 . Would I gain anything by swapping the H80 from my Q9550 build and putting the i7 cooler on it ? There is no way to o/c in the bios , so that's out . I've read where you can use setFSB to adjust multiplier .... I dunno on that .

If you are not overclocking, the only thing I can think of is noise. Whichever the H80 is on would be quieter. I think the i7 920 is more power hungry, so I would have the H80 on it and a air cooler on the Q9550.

Well the Q9550 is of to 3.6 and it gets slightly warmer than the i7 when gaming (that I rember) . Guess I need to stress the Q again and see it's temps . I don't see no oc in the i7's future on the stock motherboard . Now if can figure out why the score for the i7 (7.4) is lower than the i5 (7.7) or the Q9550 (7.5) on the WIE...

Back on those CPU's you had to raise the FSB and unlink your RAM speed to overclock. 780i's were good for maybe 360-375MHz on the FSB, if you want more, you will need a X48 board.

An i7 900 series processor is 40% faster than the Q9000 series when you compare them at the same clock speeds. So a i7 920 @ 2.66Ghz is like a Q9550 @ 3.7Ghz.

The Intel i7 4000 series processors are approximately 25-30% faster than a i7 900 series processor at the same clock speeds. So a i7 920 to keep up with a 4000 series processor, the i7 920 would need to be at approximately 4.75Ghz to 5GHz to keep up with a stock i7 4770K.
