How is something that is 2 months old "news"? Not to knock you Xray, but they announced this in January. http://www.cnet.com/news/microsoft-to-deliver-free-windows-10-upgrades/ Somehow these "articles" are months behind. They did the same thing with IE/Spartan. We've known this for months, but they rehash it and post it. Maybe I've been following it too close...

I see they briefly throw in the bit about if you want a fresh install, instead of just an upgrade - they still haven't said that is free or not, they are 'thinking' about what to do. near end of article : There are, though, “edge cases” that add up to a small fraction of Windows users. If you want a fresh copy of Windows 10 to install on a home-built computer or on a virtual machine (like Parallels or VMware Fusion on a Mac), you might have to pay for the operating system. Woodman said, “We never said Windows is free,” but also, “We haven’t made the decision” on whether it will be free for these users, nor what it will cost if it is not free.

Since January 21st, it has been free. Nothing will stop working everything will work as it should and better. if you want to now you can upgrade to the current windows 10 TP build via windows update and give your feedback windows 10 is after all been shaped by us the enthusiast and gamer and such
