Ok so here's a weird one.  I have a couple mismatched drives that I use for archival purposes.  One of them is a Seagate 1.5TB drive and it only spins up if it's standing vertically (ports facing up).  If I lay it down normally, it spins up for a fraction of a second, clicks, shuts down, and starts over.  SMART tests are perfect, and Seagate SeaTools says the drive is perfect.

The drive has been secured with all four screws in a case for the past year or so.  It just hasn't been plugged in.  I mean, I'm not worried, because I can just pull all the info off and put it on a new drive, but I'd like to get it working again.

If you can not have it in a certain direction then I would replace it fast.before you cant recover or burn blurays save you important stuff and just go it will die soon enough.

Yeah I would totally get all the important stuff off and backed up, and then replace it.
