Just wondering if a M.2 B+M, would fit in x99 classified socket (M.2 M)

socket B+M, uses pines 1-11, 21-57, 67-75
socket M, uses pines 1-57, 67-75 (x99 classified)
Socket B, uses pines 1-11, 21-75

So it appears, Socket M uses all the same pins as Socket B+M, but maybe not for the same purpose? Just curious because I would love to get Samsung's new m.2 drive

My understanding is that for SSDs keyed for both B+M, they can work in either slot. SSDs keyed for M only must be placed in a M slot, it will not fit in a B slot and vise versa.

i7-3770K | Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H | Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz | Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB | EVGA Geforce GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 | EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 | Corsair Obsidian Series 450D

That's what I figured, but wasn't sure. Would be a expensive mistake to  order the wrong thing.

If you want it for speed via PCI-E, I would look at the XP941 since its PCI-E 2.0 x4.  Exactly the max the MB can offer and fastest SSD in the market.  SM951 will be a bit faster but will be better off if you had PCI-E 3.0 which this board didn't come with for that slot, unfortunately.

I wanted to go to xp941, that price though... I'll see in the future. 500gb for 500 dollars is steep...

It is but worth the performance in my book since its pretty ahead so you're paying for that aspect in some sense.  Its a bit faster than 2 850 Pros in RAID 0 in some instances I've seen.

Mine was bootable with only Windows 8 as I couldn't get Windows 7 to work.  A couple of others did get Windows 7 to work but most I spoke to had a simple installation with Windows 8 since its a UEFI disk to begin with where Windows 7 isn't and needs to be converted.  I went through hell going through the process and gave up on Win 7 and just bought Win 8 as my issues instantly went away and had the installation complete in 5-10mins.
