With today's digital download age, do you guys feel it is necessary to install a blueray drive in your build?
Pros & cons?

I have one but only because I have quite a few blu rays that I don't want to repurchase digitally at this time. I also have some older games no longer available on digital download that I like to pop into the player once in a great while.

A Drive no ,but a burner YES.and still you dont need to install it they are tiny and usb 3.0 works like a charm. no powercord just the usb cord. Its the only thing big enough to hold your fills. If you save usb or spar hardrive the files can be change or altered from the way you want it to be incase you lose it. Best back up for Downloads I think. We do so many its nice to save the DLs in a hard place.

A burner is also a Drive.

If you plan on watching Blu-rays on your computer or use an HTPC then I say yes. I honestly cannot remember the last time I used a disc drive on my PC...LOL!

Believe it or not, I still am a firm believer of dual-optical drives in a build (yeah, that's sooo 2002). However, I have both a Pioneer 16x Blu-ray Burner, and an LG 12x BD-ROM that I'm going to be installing in my new build. Although having a 480GB SSD, I'm probably gonna use that for both Windows boot AND for Steam as well, but at the same time, having a 4TB secondary HDD, and two Blu-ray drives, I think I can make that work out for the better. Time'll tell with that one.

I still run optical's, but my computer doubles as a work machine for my personal bussiness, and I burn alot of CD's for utilities to repair computers, or driver disks, or any number of things I will need for another computer.

Thanks for the input! More comments lean to the benefits of having one in your build.

I think is safe to assume that no game will ever be released in blu ray for PC. They rather put multiple DVDs on the box if necessary than risking retail it in blu ray and deal with the small installed based. So if you're looking for storage and movies, maybe yes.

I had one in my old build, but never used it. When I made my new computer, I got a USB BD-RW drive and havent really used it all that much. I think you could do without. ~Fus

it really just depends, do you use blue rays, if not then spend 20 bucks for DVD-RW

They're pretty much most useful if you plan on using your rig as a full-out HTPC/multipurpose rig. Perhaps if you are using a PC for overall entertainment outside of games, then yes, it would be great.

I bought my first Blu-ray burner in 2009 been watching movies with it for years. It came with cyber link pro. My opinion is fair purchase due the fact I don't use television for watching movies.

Isn't Win10 going to have native BR playback? Me, I don't even use disc media anymore.

Eh, I wouldn't. But then again I would use my PC for PC uses and leave the home theater stuff to my other devices..

I went ahead an installed a DVD/RW I purchased directly from EVGA. I like that the DVD drive has black backing on the side that can be seen thru the window. I normally stream my movies on Vudu in HD quality, so I went with the DVD Drive for convenience. There is 1 game I play (MLB 2k) that requires the CD to run which was a deciding factor on why I installed one. Here is a photo of the build with the DVD drive installed. You can see the Silver backside of the DVD drive; however, I like how it matches my monochrome theme :) I am probably going to paint the side cover of the Hadron black where you can see the gray between the SSD and DVD drive. You can barely notice the gray, but i'd prefer it completely black in that corner.

I have one. There are some movies that I just HAVE to buy in 3d Blu-Ray. That is what I use it for.
