ok. I updated my system. I don't wanna get into my steps of overclocking but...i've been spending more time playing with bios then games. Dealing with crashes, blue screens, overheating and all that sh*t..is it really worth it?? or should I put precision x away and stay away from bios? I've read up on how and watched videos. but it is frustrating.

Case- NZXT Phantom w/3x200mm 2x140mm 2x120mm fans
Mobo- m5a99fx pro r2.0
Ram- G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB
CPU- FX-8350 cooled with H80i with Noctua NF-F12 fans
GPU- EVGA 780 GTX FTW 980MHz core (Have a second card on the way)
PSU Corsair HX750 (Have an EVGA 1000w G2 on the way)
I play on a 3D 1080p Optoma on a 135" screen.

If I keep gpu's at stock, especially if I'm getting a second, should I just let the motherboard boost my cpu a little with auto tuning and be done with it??
(know I"m answering my own question...guess I wanna hear that i'm right or wrong)

Your graphic card is overclocked 130MHz and I think that should be enough for you for gaming.
If you have really nice chip you can push little more but not worth set last stable clock and faced as you say with constant crashes, voltage increasing, heat, etc...

To be honest I love to OC for benchmarks first 2-3 weeks, after that only useful BIOS for me is official BIOS.
I'm not against overclocking and in BIOS, but only to improve performance for little, nothing with voltage, power target and similar things.
Example to set memory clock from 1750MHz to 1800/1900 and if card is overclocked 120MHz to push on 150MHz,
such little changes are OK in BIOS.
I never ever play some game with overclocked card if I couldn't play with fabric clock and need few fps more.
If fps is 50-55 than overclocking can help, if fps is 25-30, than you need better, newer graphic or second card for SLI
and you can OC for benchmark.
That's nice when new driver show up and you make little competition and try to beat own score, compare with previous drivers, I like that, that's interesting for me and because of that I tried hard to find money, save money and to find some better graphic cards.
When you get second card best way is to keep them on fabric clock 980MHz, I think most people with multi GPU do that

It's all up to you on how you want it to run... If overclocking is turning out to be more of a hassle, i'd just leave it alone. That's actually the reason I went with the i7 4790K. Don't even have to mess with anything, just plug and play. AMD's version of that is the FX 9590, it's pretty much an overclocked FX 8000 series processor that is at 4.7Ghz. Too bad your motherboard doesn't support it.

The answer is "No" you don't have to overclock anything.  But for some of us what you have described is "A Game in Itself " benchmarking over and over trying to beat your last score or beat someone else with a similar setup ( frustration is part of the enjoyment of overclocking )  black screen , blue screen , won't boot , cmos resets and my personal favorite complete destruction of windows requiring a reformat .   I have a laptop for emails and other important things my main rig is a just a big toy and when I'm overclocking it if I don't see a blue screen or two ... in my mind I'm not trying hard enough.

If your frustration is turning to anger then your best off to just leave things alone go gaming and have some fun , give yourself a break and come back to it when and if you feel like it.

it is getting to be tedious and I have been at it for over a week trying to get it right. My second 780 came today, just waiting on the bigger psu. I reloaded everything today. Bios, OS, and all. Going to run it with both card at stock and stock on the fx.....for now. Then when I feel comfortable it will slowly take it up. I jumped to 4.0 trying to get to 4.5 on my first cpu oc....

I do prefer to buy bigger/more expensive so I dont have to tinker with it...That stock 4.7ghz would be sweet and knowing me I would upgrade if my mobo supported....Thanks

RainStryke......I have to look...it is on my compatability list but scary high volts...220w...wow....also Asus gives a warning next to this
Due to the high TDP, please be noted there are limitations while using this CPU(i.e. special thermal required..)

I suppose I was wrong on the compatibility. I would do it if you can... it's not a while lot different on power draw when you compare it to an overclocked FX 8300 CPU, since you need more voltage to get higher clock speeds.
