Looks like nvidia might have their hand forced this time. This should be interesting if its true.

Interesting, I made the link on mobile, maybe shortened it by default?

I'm not a big fan of stock AIO coolers, they usually are cheaply done or not done in a style I like. I also don't like to use a single 120mm rads for parts, I know its the rule of thumb, but I feel like a high-end part deserves more than a single 120mm rad. You wouldn't use a 120mm rad for a 5960x would you? Why would you treat a 390x any different.

Once I have all the parts, freaking waiting forever for a GM200 response. Refuse to pay for GM204, if there is a possible GM200 or if 390x is better I'll get a 390x. Buying a GM204 IMO is like buy a cut down block. Plus EK still hasn't made a block for the 980 classified K|ngP|n GPU. Taking their time i guess, better be good *impatient*. Got the PSU/RAM/Case/fans/rads all ready, Nateman has my x99 and using it to work the new cpu block, SSD's are currently blank ready to be configured. Monsoon parts are coming out hopefully in march, if not I might have to take the burden and buy my own until theirs comes out.

We know that they have GM200, and that it is working. All they have to do is cut down the titan X to a 980ti like the titan to the 780

Just remembering roughly the titan was announced than the 780 Ti a few months later do given the time period if AMD launches in June, most likely will have the Ti'd 980 by Aug. If not the 980 Ti.. 990? Don't think nVidia has released the dual GPU flagship card in a while. Don't remember it coming out for the 700 series.

690 (never mind the abomination that was the titan z) so its due for a dual gpu, but I can't think of a generation where nvidia made a good dual gpu. 590 and 690 had problems that cause failures, titan z was horribly over priced.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens if this GPU debuts in the $500-$600 price range.

    Well Nvidia can do this

    Cut down GM200 = 980Ti
    Full Power GM200 = 980 Ultra

please no... I hate the whole cut down idea... why not just GM204=980, GM200=Ultra. Got to admit the 580 classified ultra sound alot sexier than 980 classifiend kingpin edition.

Weird, I bought a 690 during launch and never had any issues at all. Only sold it for a Titan because of the 2gb vram.

not sure if all cards had the issue, or if it was just ASUS/MSI/Gigabyte. I don't remember seeing EVGA/Zotac

So, the 300x's are just a die Shink from the 200x's? Maybe hopefully less TDP/Heat over the 200's? And just seems like AMD is just doing better at supporting display_port?

Seriously thinking about a AMD GPU, next build...

Have to get better support of DP, their freesynch is based on it. I am not 100% sold on the 300 series, especually since they havent released any official specs or announcements. Hell they havent even shows a prototype, while Nvidia just gave away a working titan x. So we know gm200 is in production. I am still waiting for the 390x though and how much power it brings, still on my radar though.

I've liked the B4B(bang4buck) when it comes to GPU's. Been looking/waiting for a single gpu to push my 1440p at 60fps, was looking at the 290_4GB_512bit, but wanting native DP_1.3a/1.4 and native openGL Vulcan and DX_12...

So, the 300x's are just a die Shrink from the 200x's? Maybe hopefully less TDP/Heat over the 200's?
Nitpick: TDP is heat, the 'T' stands for 'thermal'.

About all we know so far is that the Fiji GPU isn't a die shrink and if it wasn't for the HBM stacked memory, the power consumption could have been much higher than 300W claim we're reading round-- which isn't a big deal when you consider 290X was a 275W card.  So we're seeing double the memory bandwidth and 45% more stream processors at the same 28nm for a 25W increase.

With 380X, it is effectively a rebrand of 290X from what we're reading so far, hopefully with 280X's price.  It was the same maneuver they did last time, rebranding Tahiti from HD7970 to R9-280X with the same 250W rating, but at a lower price; and it worked, most people were not fidgety about the power consumption if they bought it with bundled games.

I don't know about AMD, but it would be smarter to apply the shrink into mobile first, higher yields usually end up there anyway.  I'm sure sure how the nomenclature would adjust, if it does.  Either the shrink is farther off than people think allowing for an R-400 series, or AMD will put 14nm cards in the R-300's; we don't know yet.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

Seriously thinking about a AMD GPU, next build...

How you think they can chase for 80% stronger card than R9-290X with less heat.
Poor AMD, and their followers, and we with NVIDIA prices.
This is picture present one more thing, period when AMD lose almost completely desktop market...
    Before 2008 situation was different.

You see plans start with Tesla and when Pascal arrive AMD will keep 10% of market...
Years of AMDs collapse and graphic cards become better and better and more expensive.
We never had such graphic cards for gamers as Titan series.
That's huge win for NVIDIA how they success to do build such monsters with 150-240W and they work on 65-70C.
I understand when someone is fan of some brand, completely, but now we are in situation where AMD customers lose lot if they dont want to enjoy in NVIDIA Titans only because they are fans of strongest Radeon cards.

They don't want to enjoy NVIDIA Titans because they cost you more than 1000$, period.

But they like R9-295X for 950-1500e?
