So the 775 heatsink I had used thumb screws, and no way to really tighten them, nor a spring of any kind. So I borrowed some screws from my tool box, added springs, and viola I had it, or so i thought. I had just a tad to much play in the cooler, so I took a broken USB cable, and wedged it around the corners of the rear mouting backet, now it has no play at all.

Now in a week or so I'm going to go to fry's and get me a Hyper 212, but the CPU kept crashing from overheat with the previous mounting options (tight motherboard, not alot of room to turn the screws lol). is this dangrous, please not, Im using a thick USB cable, and I did trim the cable very cleanly and cut it excat so the inner wires couldnt contact the motherboard leads.

it also brought my idle temps down from 56C to 41C

It is probably safe for the time being - 1 week more or less tops.  Others have done far crazier things - like using toothpaste for TIM.  If you are really worried, wrap the USB cable in some electrical tape or swap to a wad of electrical tape.

I have always loved zipties. as long as they are not too zipped up they are great for temp set ups and testing
